rear speakers sound bad? why?

i just installed an alpine 9827 deck into my 1999 dodge intrepid. along with a pair of 3-way alpine 6x9 rear speakers. but the sound quality comming out of the speakers is ok but should be alot better. the tweeters sound good along with the mid range. but the base is very week and when turned up sounds very fuzzy and not a good deep base like the should put out?

does anyone have an idea what maybe wrong with it? i tried fliping the posative and negative ends around. but i'm not sure why they dont sound like the quality they should.

yeah but i'm not talking about the subs ... the speakers them self should sound decent ... and there fuzzy sounding

don't know, maybe check the old chrysler speakers and compare, or maybe get the infinity speakers found on the premium systems from chrysler, they are designed for the intrepid.

I used to have a '96. The infinity speakers aren't worth the money. I put in pioneer 6x9's and it was much better. Switching the - and + won't do anything except burn out your speakers faster. You need to fine tune your settings. If you are unsure have someone at a local car audio shop do it. I am in sound comps and it sounds lame, but backstreet boys works well for fine tuning if you don't use subs.

First, Make sure you adjusted the Bass on the radio correctly.

the "fuzzy" noise could be cause by poor grounding. Ground wires should be connected to the chasiss metal part, not painted parts. clean/sand to get metal to metal contact for good grounding.

Alpine products are great and should sound great.

If your not getting any bass, check and make sure the speakers are hooked up right, if one has the polarity reversed, it will cancel out the bass. Next make sure you have a good seal between the 6x9's and the trunk, if there is a large gap, or even a small one really, it can really hender performance. The last thing to try is to see if you can get an enclosure to fit the 6x9's in and still have them in the rear deck.

Which alpine 6x9's do you have anyway? and is this an infinity system? One thing to note most aftermarket speakers need more power than factory, for one reason they are made of better parts, in which case are heavier, this makes them harder to move so you need the juice to push them. Sound is all about moving air, not about watts. So if you can vibrate the speaker enough, then it won't move enough air.

I don't think the rear speakers should go to chassis ground. They should be grounded all the way back to the radio. Most or all new cars have a "floating" ground on the chassis. This can cause a fuzzy sound in the speakers.

Moparnorth is right, you don't ever want to hook your speakers to chasis ground, most head units the speaker voltage is on a totally seperate system than the chasis, so it can damage the radio but the possible increased voltage potential. Anyway it's just bad on the amp/radio
