Tentative Yay!!!! We think, possibly, maybe........

For all of you out there who read the previous post and didn't know the answer either.......
My mechanic -thinks- he's solved the problem. There is a wiring harness underneath, with four or five wires going to the fuel pump (and other gadgets in that area, presumably.) A ground wire had shorted (and partially melted) and apparently, was making contact part of the time, which is why it started sometimes and sometimes it didn't. But he's still scratching his head over the fuel pump relay. It still starts, even after he fixed the ground wire, whether the relay is in or out. I can't wait to see if it starts tomorrow - and if the interior lights ever flash again........

If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to find out which GM factory built this van, go there, and ask to meet the crew that wired it........

Hi, I had similiar problems last fall, during snowy and cold weather. Was the neutral safety switch on the trans. Common problem with the older Safaris, mine is a 1997. Dealer wanted $650, took it to a recommended trans shop and they keep parts in stock because it is so common. Cost me under $300. The units get hot and crack with age, so they are affected by temp, soooner or later they crack. Good luck.
