2000 lesabre 3.8....gas mileage is terrible

don't know if it's just the winter or what but it seems the mileage is getting worse...

someone recommended a fuel injector cleaning....is the 60$ or so dollars going to make a difference?

Fuel injector service will be helpful, however a tuneup should be in your regular maintance schedule. If one has not been done, do that first. What is the mileage of the vehicle? Scaning the vehicle for the coolant and oxygen sensors parameters will acertain that the sensors are within specs. If they are not within specs of lazy, they should be replaced.

For your info only a tune up is a thing of the past, it shouldn't be called a tune up anymore. Tune ups were done on carb cars on fuel injection cars a tune up sounds like it means something, well it isn't. All that gets done is spark plugs get replaced and maybe a fuel filter gets replaced and a PCV.

PCV ins't worng with his suggestion I would also recommend that but in the winter time with extended warm ups (starting the car and letting it warm up), using the defroster and the extra energy used in driving thru snow/slush will lower your mileage.

Something to remember here is that the solvents used in cleaning injectors are similar to gasoline. These injectors typically do not respond to cleaning. If they have a problem, they should be replaced. Suggestion, testing wouild determine the cause of the problem, and allow for a fix rather than a bandaid. Food for thought: Lower air temps will tell the computer to add fuel to compensate, adding to consumption. Ray
