help a kid out !!!

hey guys, im kinda new to tuning, and i want a skyline.....but cant afford to buy one and import it. i was wondering if you guys could recommend a car, that is around the same length, height, and chassis style as a 2000 skyline gtr. im going to try and find all skyline body parts (all panels, bumpers, and headlights) and have my friend (who has been tuning for years now) help me put them on. it would be more of a show car than anything else, because i know that the conversion will make the car quite heavy. i was looking at Civics and Maximas (because i heard they are good candidates for skyline conversions), plus if i got a maxima i would still be in the nissan family, and would have to graft the chassis as much. i saw some blitz body kits that look almost exact skyline parts. if not i can get actual nismo parts. help me out guys! thanks.

Don't take this the wrong way, man, but if you can't afford to purchase a Skyline, then you can't afford to convert some other car to look like one. To do a complete, nice transformation on something like a Civic or Sentra or something, would cost a LOT. You'd be importing the bumpers, tailights, headlights, etc...from Japan, and that runs up a bill in a hurry. There's no way it could be done for cheaper than the $18,000 it'd cost you to pick up an R32 GTS.

Then you'd have the looks AND performance of a Skyline. And probably a lot fewer Skyline fanatics wanting to skin you alive.

Re: help a kid out !!!

Racing Concept by my house can get authentic NISMO parts and they dont import from japan, they have em in a warehouse in seattle.

400 bucks (each) for front and rear bumpers, 200 for both sideskirts, and then the only other thing i would need is side panels, hood, trunk and tail/headlights. plus i can put it all on myself so id save on labor costs. your right that this is a shit idea, but eh. ive been looking all over for shit used skyline (preferably 99-00) already imported but i cant find anything. im gunna keep lookin though....

but just so you and your fellows know, this conversion idea is a last resort. perhaps i can find an older skyline, and switch out the body to a 2000...assuming the parts would use same holes and whatnot for installation...then id have to do some minor grafting. anyways...hopefully a sky will come through for me....had my mind set on this car for years now.

Re: help a kid out !!!

Guy - it's not a lego kit.
You can't 'switch out' an R32 body to make it an R34. They have completely different dimensions. You'd spend much more money on the conversion that you would on a real car.

I've seen many Honda lamp conversions (both fronts and rears) - and they look kinda silly. Nothing like a real Skyline.

I'm also keen to know how this place can get 'authentic' Nismo parts - without importing them from Japan. Where do you think they are made? Plus - $400 for an OEM bumper! I'd set up a redistribution business - you could afford an R34 in no time! They're having a lend of you.

Stow this idea - keep saving for the real thing.
You'll get there.

Jameszilla is right. You can't bolt a 34 body onto a 33 or 32.

By the way, you're not going to find a 99-00 Skyline that's for sale anywhere in this country, at least not legally. I think there's maybe two that were ever legallized, and depending on who you talk to, even those might have been recalled by Motorex. You can't have a legal R34 right now. OBDII problems.

Re: help a kid out !!!

Threads like this just are plain and simply stupid.

Fuckwits chaning or wanting to change their car to look like something it isn't.

Do me a favour, go to the honda or toyota forums in AF and change one to look like other. Don't come back here until you are ready to accept owning the real thing.

Just make ABSOLUTE certain that it's a legally imported car. You might want to get some info on it, and call Motorex to verify that it's been imported through them. Despite what some people say, they are the only ones who can legally certify them for use in the States. But that doesn't stop people from bringing over several illegally.

Show and Display?

Now, I've read the stuff on the NHTSA site.....There is no mention of a Nissan Skyline being able to be brought over for Show and Display. How is it done?
