R.P.M problem with a 2000 dodge ram

I have a 2000 dodge ram pickup 1500, sometimes when i start the truck and drive it seems like the trasmission is not shifting into the next gear. It's a automatic transmisson, the R.P.M's will go up to 3000 just to get the truck to do 40 when normally it only takes 1500 to 2000 to hold this speed. Also when you take your foot off the gas there is a rumble in the exhaust in the back. Most time all i have to do is pull over turn the truck off and then turn it back on wait 10-15 seconds put it in gear and it runs fine. Does anybody know what the problem maybe or if this has happened with anyone elses truck? Any thoughts in this matter would be very helpfull. Thanks

Throttle positioning sensor??

Dodges are bad about TPSs going bad. Easy fix, not expensive and you can do it yourself.

I have the same problem. I live in central mn and it only does it when it gets below zero. Even then it doesn't happen all of the time. I do have an aftermarket tps. I think sometimes it is just until the tranny warms up a bit.

I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 Diesal 4x4 and just called the dealer, and was told that the TPS is part of the "Accelerator and Cruise Bell Crank" assembly and can't be purchased separately. Is this right? Cuz $425.00 doesn't sound so "not expensive" to me. Please email me with any suggestions... Thx

It could be the TPS but it could also be....
The fuel service system will do that if everything is not up to snuff (ei..Filters clogged, pump degrading ect..) as well as the valve body in the transmission if it's automatic. That is a problem less recognised but is known to these and will ruin the tranny in time if not addressed. A scan or diagnostic should expose the problem. Good luck.
