First Bike

Hey whats up? Ive been looking into getting a bike for awhile and have found 2 bikes that I really like. The 2001 Honda CBR 600F4i and 2001 Yamaha R-6. I ve heard really good things about both bikes and have also read that the Honda is alot tamer than any other 600, but i was just seeing what peoples opinions are. Thanks alot.

Re: First Bike

Tons of this discussion all over this forum. Please run a search, do a lil reading, and ask some questions after you've read the opinions.

Re: First Bike

If you are not an experienced rider than those bikes are too fast for beginner bikes.

And yes ther is a thread right at he top that says IMPORTANT that is about first bikes.

Thats the stupidest comment I ever heard. Did you yourself start out with a R6 or a CBR? If not then I suggest you dont say anything. Lets just say I agree that those are not good first bikes, (which I dont) speed is the last thing that the begginers need to worry about. Anyone can go fast so that has nothing to do with it. God its crazy how much people on here sound like bitching parents who have never ridden a bike themselves but say its the most dangerous thing on the planet. Back up your info with some details instead of just posting that its not a good bike and then taking off. Every one of my posts has supporting details and I always back up my opinions so please dont post your one liners that make no sense at all.

Re: First Bike

Anyways iceman, instead of being lazy and not answering your questions like the others I will start off by saying I have an R6 and its the best investment I ever made. A buddy of mine has a f4i that I rode and I think its also a great bike but I prefer the handling of the R6 a little better. Its just so nimble and easy to throw from side to side. But either way you go, they both great bikes. An R6 should be able to be had for cheaper if that matters. Hondas have really high resale for some reason. So whichever you choose they are both great.

Now THATS funny!!!

I agree with EGcivicSi. The R6 is a FANTASTIC bike. No doubt it will be a challenge for you when you start, and will take you a lot of seat time before you can begin to push the bikes limits or understand its true power and potential. But it will be a thrill for you for years to come. Many experienced riders who could easily handel a 1000cc cycle will still chose a 600cc because of the power to weight ratio. 600cc technology has increased exponentially in recent years. And the R6 leads the pack.

I dont particulary like honda cycles. They are fine, but they are too middle of the road on eveything for my taste (ride quality, handeling, ride stance, ect). Some of my friends ride f4i and are very happy.

But i would definatly get a R6 first, my preference

Re: Re: Re: Re: First Bike

I'll thank you to know that I was not lazy in not answering... there are many respected opinions on this forum that have had this conversation MANY times, and reading up on those conversations will be of far more benefit than a bunch of Yammi phreeks preaching the righteousness of the R6... Yes, I have a Yamaha... it's the shittiest bike I've EVER ridden.

I have never ridden the R6, and I don't ever want to. It's ugly, all I EVER hear from my friends with R6's is how the tranny sucks (standard fare for a Yammi), and how the throttle is a bitch to deal with. Hell, I taught a new rider on my 600cc hunk of Yammi crap, and the whopping 50bhp was too much for him. Could he have adjusted to it in time? Maybe, but he had no idea of throttle control, and every time he tried to ease on the throttle he ended up being jerked about by the bike.

If you're smart about riding, you start small because you realize that you'll have the rest of your life to ride large. Otherwise you turn into a HP squid with nothing but the size of your "displacement" on-hand.

Sorry, I'm absolutely sick to the gills of idiots both in real life and online spouting pure horseshit. I had to say something.

No I did not, I have been around it all my life. I grew up riding dirt bikes etc. the fisrt street bike I rode was a 97 YZF 600R. I started out slow on it but got the hang of it farly quickly, but like I said I have been around bikes all my life, I worked at a Yamaha dealer for 2 yrs. I was saying that if he has never been on a bike than any sport bike in the 600+ cc range is too big. There is alot more possiblity of him getting into a situation where the only thing that can save him is experience, which he will not have if he starts on a sport bike. Now if someone is level headed enough to take it very easy and be smart and not do anything dumb than yea it is possible to start on a 600cc sport bike. But the reality is that 90% of the people that ask about doing that have no clue the power of one and how quickly you can get into a bad situation.
Is that better?

And on a different topic I like the new ZX6R's. The R-6 is a nice bike but I have started leaning towards the Kawasaki's. But that is just my opinon. Everybody seems to like a specific brand, even if it is not the fastest.

Re: First Bike

Teg, I somewhat agree with what your saying. Nobody ever said learning with a 600 would be easy. It takes time. Of course it depends on the person. Despite what you all think about 600 as a first bike I couldnt see myself in any other bike. My buddy who got a ninja 250 is nowhere close to my level so to me I dont believe the smaller the bike the better. And hes been riding longer than me. I may learn stuff quicker than others but I also got a smart head on my shoulders and I know what I can and cant do. Like I said the R6 is such an easy bike to throw from side to side, it handles better than a ninja 250 thats for sure so theres no reason why a 600 isnt a good first bike.

Teg, the reason I said what I said was because of the way you answered the question. The bike being too fast is not something to worry about. But I get what you were trying to say.

Saturn, yes the R6 trannies are POS compared to most. They are very clunky, but thats no reason to say they suck. Its just a clunky trannie, whats the big f in deal? And people can say all they want about the second gear problem on the R6 but if you knew anything about bikes then you would know that the 2nd gear problem can be a problem with ANY BIKE. So to say the R6 sucks because of a clunky tranny, come one now, thats just a con which almost any bike has. So are you gonna say the 600rr sucks because the seat sucks? I mean thats basically what your saying. As for the throttle, your way off, any bike with that much power have twitchy throttles. My buddies cbr is the same way so that is NOT a problem, its something you have to get used to.

And if your refering to me about the HP squid comment then you might wanna ride with me first before you go assuming. And a squid is someone who dont wear the proper gear and im definately not one of them. Im full suited up for just about every ride I take. Track or street, full head to toe.

Re: First Bike

And if I wanted more horse I would have got an liter bike but the fact is I will prolly never go higher than a 600, they are too fun they have all the power I could ever need or want.

Re: Re: First Bike

I wasn't referring to anyone on this forum. Just venting about the f'in squids who come on a forum every damn day and they're like "y0, I need some blang. Wut y@ thank bout dat bike in bika boyz, holl@"

As for my tranny comment... I HATE Yamaha transmissions. Every Yammi I've ever ridden has that GAWDAWFUL tranny, so right there it leads me to another company. Getting foot cramps from shifting is NOT my idea of a fun twisty run. Yes, I think the 600RR sucks because of the seat alone. Who is going to want to ride it if you feel like you've been @$$-pounded in prison for a year every time you sit??? Can you tell I'm picky about bikes?

Re: First Bike

Yea I think there were only like one or two squids on this board, but we have gotten rid of them already.

When I had my track ready R6 I had to modify the clutch basket a little to make some adjustments that made shifting less painful. So far I have not had any complaints on my R1s clutch assembly. And yes, the 600rr is in desperate need of and aftermarket seat.

I started out on mine. It's not a good thing to do. I came very close to doing myself in within two weeks. Neither had any thing to do with speeding. Just stupid mistakes like dumping the clutch.

However, I agree the throttle isn't really a problem, Although I like my 5/8ths much better now.

oh, and I will say this, starting on any late generation sportbike, regaurdless of the ccs, is stupid. If you are in a hurry to kill yourself, fine, go jump off a fucking bridge, stop raising my insurance.
