'97 CRV Factory "Radio Only" Stereo Question

Hello group,

I recently bought a used 1997 CRV factory "radio only" stereo. When I installed it everything works fine. However, I was curious about something. The radio has a clock on it. Is it normal for the LCD display to be lighted all the time when the car is running or the key is in "accessory mode"? I just thought it's useless to have the backlight of the LCD to be on during the day. I figured that the LCD should only be lit when my dash lights were on. The rest of the radio's buttons (mode, rpt, rew, ffwd, 1-6, etc.) light up only when I turn on my dash lights.
Anyone out there still have their stock "radio only" stereo? Thanks for your future inputs.

D.
