I need HELP!
Ok this is a long one so sit back and put your feet up. I found an 89' GTUs on autotrader.com for 2800 a month ago. New exhaust, new clutch, and it had a rebuilt series 4 short block with all the hardware from the series 5 on it. Went to go see it and it was on jack stands because a tire mix up (and he said he would do a break job for $100 more on price). Decided on a later date to drive it and that gave me time to cash out some money from the bank so I could pay for it if I wanted to buy it. Well, on my way up to drive it he calls me and says he blew the motor (said he over reved it). Thinking about it I realized his mistake. Series 4 motor has a 7500 redline and the series 5 has 8500. The series 5 computer let it rev higher than its sould have and when he "over reved" it to 9500 it gave up. Now he says for 900-1000 more (price now 3800-3900) he is putting in a JDM TII motor. That rang some bells in my head. Ive heard that when doing a TII swap you HAVE to swap the tranny, drive shaft, diff, and half shafts to make it work. My friend (w/ a 89 GTU) has a TII tranny on his NA motor. My question is will it work (TII on GTUs tranny and rear end), will it last if it works, and can I just swap the tranny and keep the rear end (4.30 on GTUs). Any info you might have will be extremely helpful as will links and people I could talk to for more info. PS the car will be ready buy next Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks in advance.

Re: I need HELP!
First off, S4 has a 7000RPM redline. S5 had 8000. The rear end on the GTUs is the same on the TII's, so that's going to work. Just make sure you know exactly what he is swapping into the car with that new motor.

GTUs's have 4.30 rears where as the TII have 4.10. Go here http://pages.infinit.net/ebedard/Frame.htm and check. They have all the tranny ratios and rear end ratios and much more.
