Re: Anyone know anything about the Buick Lacrosse?

The lacrosse is the Regal replacement coming out next model year!

Buick Lacrosse

Also in Canada the lacrosse will be renamed, it seems that Lacrosse is a slang word for self stimulation the French areas of Canada!

Also look for the new Buick Terraza another version based on the U body platform. For the folks that don't know what a U body is it is a mini van.

We also have a new engine coming out it will be in the Lacrosse and some other models the 3.6L VVT DOHC V-6, 240 horsepower.

It's a beautiful looking car, it's gonna have the new GM engine in it. The 3.6 Liter DOHC V6.

I was told that the 231 was getting canned. Is that true as well? the person that told me this is not known to be all that reliable when it comes to what new products are coming out. For example he tried to tell me that the new GTO was AWD and 400 HP Anyway, I really like the way the Lacrosse looks and what they have done with the car. Theyll probabally end up supercharging that 3.6 sooner or later though. If only they would put out another turbo engine again.....

Supercharging would kinda be unescessary, the 3.6 comes stock with 245 horsepower, which would seem good enough for that car. What am i saying!! There's always room for more horsepower,i hope they do supercharge it.

I thought the 231 was going to be the standard engine in the LaCrosse. It will be the Series III though. Dunno what that means. On the luxo level LaCrosse the new 3.6 DOCH engine will be used, but they're keeping the 3.8, 231, whatever, around.

I like the 3.8. It's a good reliable little engine. Had one in my '85 Cutlass, couldn't kill the thing.

The new LaCrosse sure looks purty though!!

Have a good one!!

Re: Anyone know anything about the Buick Lacrosse?

231CID engine is standard in the Lacrosse. 3.6 VVT V6 is optional, outperforming the current SC 3.8

Re: Anyone know anything about the Buick Lacrosse?

For anyone who doesn't know what the VVT engine is it is variable valve timing. The exhaust as well as the intake will have a cam phaser that can change the valve tiiming. It can vary the valve overlap. One of the functions of the valve overlap it to clean up the emissions coming out the tailpipe. This valve overlap is called Exhaust Gas recirculation, also refered to as EGR.

Re: Anyone know anything about the Buick Lacrosse?

the later series 1 3800's (1994) had an EGR module thingy a few inches from the thermostat. Did they have a much more basic version if VVT? If not, then what did it do?

The GN's had an EGR valve too, it open up when you are decelerating, when the exhaust gasses are the most rich, to recurilate that rich gas back into your combustion chamber to help with emmisions. As cool as it would be, VVT is not on a series I engine, VVT has not come on as a popular thing untill recently. Correct me if im wrong but, I think the V- tech hondas are the first cars to be massed produced with VVT.

The way an EGR system works when it has a valve is it allows exhaust gas into the intake to lower combustion chamber temps. Now on a VVT engine the computer can adjust the amount of time the valves are open. IF you hold the exhaust open longer when the intake valve is open while the piston is going down, it will draw exhaust gases back into the cylinder giving you an EGR system without the valve. Its all about getting exhaust gases back into the cylinder to lower the temp. When you lower the temp you will reduce the NOX coming out the tailpipe. That is one of the uses for the VVT. I will try to dig up some more info later.
