how good are the 205/40-17 yokohama parada's for cornering? rain and all the other good shit tires are for. lol
recommend anything better? toyo proxies? nitto 450? i know there are sites with info like tirerack and others but i want a personal opinion on the tires and personal experiences.

Don't get anything from Nitto except their drag radial.
Depending on where you live you will not be able to use these tires in the winter: Bridgestone PP S03 - supposed to be the tire to have but were very expensive. Prices have come down to compete with Azenis and Kumho. Michelin Pilot Sport Kumho 712s (z rated) - I had these and they were good all around. Squealed when you pushed them too hard - cheap and quiet. Falken Azenis - I have these now and they corner like crazy. Rain they are fine. Tires are larger than what the size says. Cheat, quiet, and grippy BFG g-force T/A KDs Toyo T1-S Yokohama A520 (very loud on the highway) - had square shoulders so cornered great, but as they wore they got unbareable.

no opinion on the parada's? i love the tread design.
i don't plan on driving in the snowing months. well winter, but it hasn't snowed here yet amazingly. but i plan to use my stock 14's when they start salting if i even drive in winter at all. but i mean, for my 17's i want to have cool tires. i can get the parada's for $100 ea. @ dealer rate. i saw the 215/30-18 paradas in person, huge but very nice. that isn't my size though.

Paradas I heard through friends of mine suck in general. No grip and hydroplane like crazy. But its your money and you can do what you want. If you want cool tires get the Scorcher then.

The Paradas are not rain tires, and not one of the best Yokohama products. Much of the design is for show, it is however very competent on dry pavement. With the proper alignement they perform very well.
The dominent force rain based tires right now along with dry grip are the Potenza line. S03. Which, obviously you know how I feel about them. RE730s, very similar, and a lot cheaper, very good dry grip, and great traction in the rain, not as good as the S03. Dry grip is almost identical as the S03. I also recommend the RE950s because of its rain ability, although its dry grip is not of either of those tires. The yoko520 is a great dry traction tire, with moderate, wet abilities, better than the Parada, also the AVS intermediate is the king of dry traction for the price, you really can't beat it, if you want cheap grip for sacrifice of wet handling, and treadwear those are it, you can buy two sets for the price of ll the others. The AVS sport are the most well rounded dry grip is as similar to the 520s and avs intermediates, but wet traction is up, a lot. Basically you just have to jump in! I strongly recommend the RE730s or S03s just because they don't scream like little girls when you get on them (like all toyos and Nitto) and they are great in the rain, probably the best.

I had an oppurtunity to drive a new 2001 civic at the local honda dealer that had pro-kits on it and parada's. I was not inpressed at all with their cornering grip. They were very predictable at the limit, but when I went over the same corners in my own car my cornering speeds were much higher and I'm running Dunlop W-10's a much older tire design.

yeah Paradas are more for "show" I guess... they're really loud (25mph) and they get no traction when the road is wet... i do not recommend these tires to anyone... i got them w/ my wheels so i won't be replacing them in the near future...

I have 215/40/17 Paradas and they're great in the dry, but in the wet, well, just stay home. They're one of the best cornering and grip tires that I've had. And a cool feature about them is that you can do FULL rotations instead of just front/back.
About the nitto drag radials. I got a set of the NT555R's when they first came out and those were by far the fastest tires to go bald! My driving didn't change and my alignment is dead on like w/all my other tires, but they just burnt down HELLA quick! |

Well I also had paradas and i hate them. I had a 215/40/18 and they were terrible in grip and rain. I hydro plained all over the place. Very unsafe- i refused to drive with them when it rained. When it was dry my God the noise is terrible. Especially while braking. It sounds like a 18 wheeler is riding next to you everywhere you go...LOL. The paradas are ment to look sleek and good and they do, and the performance is strictly track in my opinion. I decided to shell out the extra bones and get some really good tires. I had to pay for em and you will too even at wholesale. But I recommend the Perelli p7000 Super sports. I got the 225/40/18. They are very quiet, quieter than my stock 196/60/15 michelins! They have very very good grip in rain. I can drive hard when it is raining and never slip. They grip very good on dry also. Amazing tire and worth the extra money you will pay. I was considering the toyo fz-4 but when these two tires are side by side you will pick perelli also because they have support in the middle of tire. I pushed down on top of the toyo and i could make it callapse. I couldn't make the perelli callapse tho..just better quality. Plus i can expect about 25k out of them which is very good for my series of tires and a quiet ride. The toyos start to wear bad after 10 k. I have been riding on my p7000 for about 3000k miles and the backs still have the little rubber things that stick up off the tire!!!. If anyone has also had a similar experience as me please post...don't let this guy get the paradas!!!!!

You wanted them, obviously, should have checked back, they really are not the best tire for what you paid.

I had the 215/40/17's in those last and they were pretty good for the money. Especially for that price, I'd get another pair.
