I have an '04 Tacoma extended cab with 4WD. I am interested in installing a 70W 2Meter radio. Anyone know how I can get official technical information on installing this in the Tacoma?
OR--has anyone had any trouble in the RF causing problems to the electronics of an '04, '03 or earlier Tacoma? Can't find anything at the Toyota.com site. Thanks Last edited by big_john; 02-19-2004 at 10:19 AM. Reason: be more descriptive of task at hand |

better late than never
I don't know if you still need this or not, probably not. I found it on a Toyota Tacoma Electronic Service Manual cd I bought on Ebay. This is copied and pasted from there.
3. IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM For vehicles with mobile communication systems such as two–way radios and cellular telephones, observe the following precautions. (1) Install the antenna as far as possible away from the ECU and sensors of the vehicle’s electronic system. (2) Install the antenna feeder at least 20 cm (7.87 in.) away from the ECU and sensors of the vehicle’s electronic systems. For details about ECU and sensors locations, refer to the section on the applicable component. (3) Do not wind the antenna feeder together with the other wiring as much as possible, also avoid running the antenna feeder parallel with other wire harness. (4) Check that the antenna and feeder are correctly adjusted. (5) Do not install powerful mobile communications system I assume that you already have the radio installed by now. I'm interested how it worked out for you as I'm about to do the same thing myself. Sorry this is likely too late to be of use to you. Jim |
