engine swap

yeah, i'm not really sure that they made a sohc cavalier.. ever.. for as long as i can remember it's been a pushrod engine, but the 2.4 dohc has about 145/150 hp, but only about 140 ft/lbs of torque, i think the 2.2 has about 120hp and about 130/135 ft/lbs of torque, .. i'm not sure which is better because the 2.2 is an eight valve, and the 2.4 is a 16, so..i guess it depends on what mods you do to your car... also, why would you want to swap a 2.2 w/ another 2.2, it's the same engine.

Re: engine swop

he wants to dump the 2200 for a quad, the 2200 is poop, you can drop a 2.4 in with a 5speed and run in the 15s, where most 2200 owners have to do alot of modding just to get to that point. but for that swap info go to www.quad4forums.com and someone will help you there

Re: engine swop

the reason I was going to replace my 2200 is that it has 270,000 mile on it that is ALOT I just need an engine that will fit with minumal replacement of part, motor mounts, wire harnesses, etc. More horse power would be great but my engine is on it's last legs just need an engine fast. so I need an engine that will fit with minumal or no extra part thanks

The quad 4 is an evil, piece of s#$% motor that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Whoever designed that motor should be ,well, I don't say executed. But,definitely flogged with a bamboo stick!!!!!

Re: engine swop

I agree I've never seen a good quad 4 and well thats because there isn"t one that would be the biggest motor swap f*&k up I've heard of. The best would be to just replace the the 2.2 it will work, as for more power just add a 5-speed and it will smoke any quad 4 with or without a 5-speed.

Re: engine swop

If you dont know the answer to this, the person replacing the motor will.

I believe you can use any year between 95-99. but Im not sure, there might have been an ECM change, worse comes to worse you could change for the newer ECM as well.

A swap from the 2.2 to the 2.4 would be rediculously expensive in comparison to just putting in a new motor.... not worth it.. turbo is cheaper

and you know this how. i know alot of people that have some form of the quad 4 in their car and have no problems.

Also to the person that said you could swap a 2200 with a 5speed and smoke a 2.4 with a 5speed or auto, um what have you been smoking?

Re: engine swop

Hey 95 Cavy, I just put a 99 engine in my 95 cavy and it worked out fine. It's a short block comparted to ours, but it's cool. You may have to rework alot of lines.
