jdm engine wear & oil questions

my old engine was eating oil, they never determined why, so i had it changed. i got a jdm reject engine it was supposed to be a duplicate replacement, however it came carberated, the shop i had install the engine switched it over for me, and said that i shouldn't see much of a difference. it was still slow as shit like i hadn't changed my engine, i was going to have it checked out by the shop, but then it started running a little better after a while. it also started eating a little oil, when i switched to a synthetic blend i got all my power back but i've burned half a quart in 5,000 miles between the oil change.

this may have been over kill to say the whole story but basically i was wondering if i should use some sort of product to recondition my engine and reduce the spaces between the seals or should i switch to higher mileage engine oil even though i'm only supposed to have 45k miles on it.

Re: jdm engine wear & oil questions

It probaly has more miles on it than you think. Try changing oil, and more often. An you probaly need to get new piston rings. Just rebuild the engine and it will be like getting a brand new engine!!!

Re: jdm engine wear & oil questions

I have 262,000kms on my JDM B16A. The engine is not identical to the USDM ones at all - it runs a higher CR to produce 100ps. The twin-carbs would have been better than the FI you put on to make it US-legal.

I run full synthetic in my B16A and ran it in my twin-carb D15 (Aussie spec ED6). It got to 250,000kms until it ate oil - and the motor is identical to the JDM spec.

Sounds like you got ripped by either the importer or the guys that did the work

Get it rebuilt

Re: jdm engine wear & oil questions

You should try to find out where the oil is going.

Get a compression gauge (cheap item) and check your compression. If it's low, squirt a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder and try again. If it improves dramatically then it's your rings. You can try "Restore", it works great for worn rings.

If there is no change when you add the oil it's probably your valve guides and there are additives that will swell the seals to limit the oil burning.

These are all band-aids though, you will need a rebuild or head gasket eventually. Let us know how it turns out. GL

actually it might be due to the large amount of braking i use the clutch for.

letting the engine do the breaking, sorry i may have not been so clear.
i would do that w/out using the brake petal it just seems that i go through engines quickly because my old engine went bad in a hurry too.
