1999 speakers

All of the speakers sometimes go out-sometimes comes on.

The radio and stuff appears to work but there is no sound. Sometimes slamming the passenger side door hard will make them come back on. Sometimes hitting a bump in the road will make it come back on, sometimes a bump will make them go out.(If the radio has been turned up alot and the sound suddently comes back on it will dang near cause me to wreck.)

The connection to the back of the radio looks and feels OK. This Tahoe has been ditched but only minor scrapes and scratches to the pass. side.

If the door speaker connection is loose will that affect all the speakers or just that door speaker?

Any other ideas?

Re: 1999 speakers

A bad speaker connection will not make the radio inop.
My question is
1)Does the radio lose display, removing all presets, and time.
2)When this vehicle was ditched was there any sort of collision?

Re: 1999 speakers

No- the radio display and everything looks like nothing is wrong. It will scan stations, etc. , the CD player displays all look like everything is ok. It just has no sound-no static no nothing. Presets and time is not affected-????????

The Tahoe ran off the road and sideswiped a fencepost-so I was told. I just bought it and it was already repaired. The is absolutely no visible damage looking from underneath on a rack. The running board was replaced but it did not even bend the brackets that it mounts to. It appears to have been a light sideswipe. No body panels were replaced and there is very little filler material. All the doors shut and align up really well.

Thanks for the replys.
Greg

Re: 1999 speakers

The only reason I asked about the collision is that in the past my friend hit a ditch almost head on in her Jeep cherokee and sliced every important wire in the dash....what a pain in the ass it is to rewire those..luckily I split the work up with another buddy.. I did the Radio he did heater controls and cluster ...never used so many connectors in my life...blah blah blah...

Sounds to me like your volume switch (R56) in the radio is inop or intermittent ... try to wiggle it .. smack it... whatever..
If this is the problem get your solder iron warmed up you'll need it, if not reply back and we'll go from there

Re: 1999 speakers

No luck on beating on the volumn switch. Even took the radio out and shook it around. The only "fix" is slamming the pass. door.

Any other ideas?

Thanks, Greg

I finally sprayed in and around the volumn knob shaft with a bunch of WD40. I know electronic guys will say NO! NO! NO! but I figured I had nothing to loose and was planning on replacing it with an aftermarket.. It has worked for a few months now without a problem.
