Been readin' Smokey's book, can you tell?

Who was the first INDY driver to win at Daytona in the stock cars. No, it wasn't A.J. or Mario but none other that ol' Lone Star J.R himself. Johnny Rutherford won the first qualifying race for the '63 Daytona 500 in Smokey's "mystery" engined '63 Impala. Now, where was this picture of the winning car taken?

Thanks guys. And jswillmon, I'm hard at it. Just did a "what if" Nascar ride like they should be. It's a Crown Vic with the full stock car treatment and Wood Brother's markings and set up for Curtis Turner jr. I'll post a pic soon.

Luke your stuff defys categorisation - is it modeling, photoshoping, racing history or just plain quirky?
I'm guessing the picture was taken on Tantooine. The shadows cast by the twin suns is a dead giveaway.

Very nice job on the '63. I'm sure if JR saw it, it would bring tears to his eyes.

I can't wait! to see the Crown Victoria build. I may be the biggest Crown Vic fan in the world, so I'm dieing to see this build.

Do you have a big collection of NASCAR cars?

The Crown Vic is 'teh best American car evah built in Canada'.

Re: Been readin' Smokey's book, can you tell?

Thanks guys for the nice commments. It almost makes the trip from Tantooine worth the credits it costs. LOL I've got around 100 of the old stock cars built and have about that many more in the works. I'm off tomorrow and if it's not cloudy, look for the Crown Vic.
