Angry Maintain Required light is on accord v6 1999

The maintain require light is on, my mile is at 56,400. I called the dealership and they said they'd charge around 600 for it. I meant i can go to regular auto care and it'd cost only about 100 bucks right?

could someone give me an advice? i dont know what kinda work that Honda Dealer do that would cost up to 600 bucks. i always thought that the light Maintain require was to remind you to tune up your car, change spark lugs, air filter and stuff. I could jsut take that to a autocare and have it done for about 100 buck but i'm not sure if it is wise to do that.

Re: Maintain Required light is on accord v6 1999

Yeah, I think the Maint. Req. light is just a reminder.

Mine came on and I ran it to the shop thinking something was wrong. I felt like a doof. I pretty much ignore it. The manual tells you how to turn it off. But if you want to get the reccomended scheduled work preformed to it I imagine any competent mechanic can preform it, and at a much cheaper rate than the Honda dealer imo. Not sure what the reccomended maintnance is at your milage, if just plugs and filters and such you could pretty easily take care of that yourself I imagine. That would save a lil more $$$. And saving $$$ is always good!

Mine came on at about the same time, I need an oil change anways so i changed the filter and all that stuff but other than normal maintanance it is nothing. All you do to turn it off is you hold in on the tripometer button without the car onh and continue to hold it and turn the car on then you release it.

Re: Maintain Required light is on accord v6 1999

Maintenance Required light is nothing but alarm clock; it comes up at preset mileage instead of preset time. To turn Maintenance Required light off you have to do same thing as you would to turn alarm clock, and it will not go away by itself same as alarm clock in morning.
To turn Maintenance required light you need to open Owner manual, find paragraph that talking about Maintenance Required light, read it, then go to car and execute procedure which you just read in Owner Manual. Whole thing is going take about 2 minutes.

to turn off maitanace req. is easy. first you push down the odometer rest button . while the car is on. keep holding and turn the car off. start it again still holding the button down. hold it till the light goes off. keep it down for a about 20 secs. more then let go it should stay off. somtimes if you let go of the reset too soon it comes back on. repeat the steps.

In answer to your original question, what is done depends upon your location and type of driving. At that mileage, they probably change your transmission fluid and your coolant, adjust your belts and check the brakes, battery, etc.
