Re: celica gt4 not climbing hill

Is it actually missing or just revving high without torque? Do you have 5spd or auto? If your running an auto its possible your low on transmission fluid and the torque converter cant work properly. Check that and if it just doesnt give the right amount of pull its possible your running lean do to a bad sensor. If its actually MISSING (shaking heavily) chreck the plug wires, distributor cap, rotor etc.

Re: celica gt4 not climbing hill

Well to me if you are having hill trouble then you should be experiencing trouble on the straight aways too. Unless when you hit a hill something is moving when the car is climbing (ie. liquid). With mine I can't slimb steep hills either because there is water in my gas tank, the engine starts sucking water causeing it to miss and bog down. And the only way to fix that is rev up to higher RPM's. It's actually fairly easy to get water in your tank especially with older cars it can build up over time. You could completely drain your gas tank which is my method or you can purchase this stuff that goes into your gas and latches onto the water molecules causeing it to mix with the gas instead of sitting on the bottom of the tank. Then it's slowly burnt away.

My final answer... Water in your gas

Re: celica gt4 not climbing hill

Thanks SYPHER. Ok I found the hose pipe which is from the aircleaner going to the turbo was leaking now I have replaced with a new hose pipe. but still I have a problem. even on the normal road I cannot takeoff like i used to do before. it bogs down. It can gradually take off but not instantly...

If your running turbo, and you run your car hard, and if it has some age to it you may want to give her a good rebuilding. Get your valves checked and get the head dipped. You should see a great performance boost or at least get somewhat closer to her origional state

Re: celica gt4 not climbing hill

I have a 1988 Chevrolet Beretta with only 90 HP.. I rebuilt that motor replacing only the necessary seals that need changing when rebuilding.. I had the head dipped, valves checked, and I cleaned the tops of the pistons (that takes extreme care) and I can get the little 90 HP engine to run very nicely.. Just give your car some good TLC and you'll be good to go..
