Redline And Shift Points

what is the redline for a 99 hyundai accent L 1.5L
and what are the recommended shift points for both normal and fast driving

I've been using the following
15mph 3500 rpm 1-2
25mph 3000 rpm 2-3
35mph 3000 rpm 3-4
45mph 3000 rpm 4-5

fast
20mph 4500 rpm 1-2
35-40mph 4700 rpm 2-3
55-65mph 5000 rpm 3-4
75-80mph 5000 rpm 4-5

ALSO ARE THERE ANY TRACKS WHERE I CAN GET MY QUARTER MILE TIME IN PENNSYLVANIA....and how much shoudl it cost.....

um also at around 80mph in 5th my rpm's tend to be up around 4100 rpms and around 95 they are at 5000rpm's....does this seem right???

Re: Redline And Shift Points

Doesn't your tachometer have a section that is red?
That's your redline

Re: Redline And Shift Points

the tach was added on its a sunpro.....it has a little red needle that i can put anywhere in the gauge i want ...be it the best shift point or the redline ...the 99hyundai accent L is the lowest model of the 2dr hatch it has no power steering (awesome) no ac (who needs it i got windows) its stick (hell yea) no tach (till now) though I don't understand why they make cars that are stick with no tach it defeats the purpose....but um also contrary to popular belief the redline on most stock tachometers is false and is only there for looks...a honda doesn't redline at 7000 rpms though the tach says it does Im pretty sure the 93 honda civic redlines around 5900 also my friends VW jetta 94 says it redlines at 6000 but the car has a rev limiter set around 5700 so he can;t reach a redline which technically means that his redline is 5700...so Im just trying to figure out the real redline of my car i've gotten it to 5800 and it still pushes but im not sure where the saftey zone ends and the danger zone begins...this is why i asked the question...

Re: Redline And Shift Points

are you completely sure...cause i have gotten it to 6000 and also when i get to about 100 mph i think its around 5000 or more... should it really be redlining at 100 also if this is truly the redline ... is it safe to go above it...

no, the engine can suffer a heavy damage if its standard. To get RPMs over 6,000 you need upgrade your block basically (ss, in spanish is "culata", the parts where the cylinders are... the bottom of that stuff), valves, etc... better shift it before the red line.

greetins

Re: Redline And Shift Points

more than the speed check the revs of your engine (and the road!!!!). If you kept it under 6,000 its ok. I have modified my accent with some things and the fastest speed i have reached was 170 km/h or 105 mph (almost crossing the red line). The revs can go down, of course, but with other transmission (to make the 5th a bit larger). At 90mph i think the alpha goes for 4000-45000 rpm, right?...

just remmeber that at 85-95 mph things cross faster.. if you car its still standard (no shocks, no springs and no tower or turret bars, no metalic pads for your brakes and the 175/70 original tires!!!) dawn, easy, that accent should move like a hot knife in butter...!!

Re: Redline And Shift Points

Does the 95 Accent has an RPM limiter? If yes, anybody knows at how many RPM's it activates?

Thanks

Re: Redline And Shift Points

its easy, just ride each gear out and you will feel your slef "stop" moving your redline is about 200 rpms before that. and yes, most factory redlines are false. My stock 88 prelude has a reline at 6,900, but I ride it out till 7,200 RPMS and then the "stop" is at 7,300 RPMS.

and those high rpms are normal on the freeway, my honda pulls 4,000 rpms at 80 mph. It helps with engine life, this is the best engine speed for oil temp, it gets all the components oiled but its not to vigor on the oil either. The enigne acutally requires less gas at 3,000 rpm than 1,000. If you ride 5th gear all the way aroudn the streets and have to floor it your going to get like 10 mpg, so rpms isn't neccesarily gas mailage.

Re: Redline And Shift Points

1st at 26
2nd at 47
3rd at 80
4th at about 101 or so not quite sure
5th mine at 111 but higher if downhill
and these are all after your engine is broken in and warmed up at the time of driving
