Signal switch replacement help

Hi Guys/Gals,

Great site.

I've been browsing but I haven't yet seen the answer I've been looking for.

I own a 1995 GMC Jimmy and need to replace the whole signal light/ wiper control/ cruise arm. ( Where I come from we'd just call it the blinker switch )

The front washers stopped working and I have trouble shot it and I know its not the washer pump and everyone is telling me I need the switch which is a multi function switch that controls all of the above.

So, if that's correct, can someone here please give me a heads up on the process? Stuff like posistion of fasteners, steps I should take, what to watch out for etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

I have already purchased the arm/switch and just need some pointers in the install.

Thank you all very much....just thought of something, I wonder if this board is still active? :-P

Re: Signal switch replacement help

ha ha you're gonna love this job. take off the steering column cover t-25(torx) i believe now theres 2 torx bolts holding the switch to the column t-15(i think) ones super easy to get at the other ones nearly impossible to get out you'll need a short torx bit(the style that fits a drill) now get the bit in the bolt and turn it with a 1/4" wrench a real pain in the ass to get out. if you strip it or can't get it out this way you'll need to pull the steering wheel(I've only had to do this once and i've done about 10) the lower part of the wiring is held together with a 8mm or 10mm bolt i can't remember which. once the plug is disconected the switch part slides out you'll see once you get it apart. . oh yeah theres also a 2wire conector for the cruise that plugs in up around the brake pedal just follow the wires and you'll see. tape it all back up when you're done. make sure you have a good supply of bandaids nearby

Re: Signal switch replacement help

Thanks so much for the reply. That really gives me the answers that I was looking for.
I was going to change it out last weekend but we ended up getting 74.5 cm of snow in about 24 hrs so I was kinda busy anyways.
Sitting here giggling at the " you're gonna love this job"
As Homer Simpson would say " In case you can't tell Marge I'm being sarcastic".

Thanks again and I'll post how I faired out..if I can still use the keyboard with all the knuckle busting cuts I figure I'll have.
