Question wrx or RS

I wanted to know if i should get a WRX or an RS..its my first car and i am very interested in subaru because of their awd system..i want to get one really bad, my budget is about 15 grand..the one thing is insurance, im sure that the wrx insurance is too much and i dont know about the power thing but if i get the rs can i make it fast?

Re: wrx or RS

Yes you can make an RS fast, there are plenty of tips in the FAQ on making is fast.

If you only have $15,000 to spend, you can only look at an RS anyhow, you won't get WRX for that unless it's been wrecked......or the previous owner has really beat it.

That is beyond not true. I bought mine one for 16 grand in perfect condition and only had 24,000 miles on it. You can easily get a 02 WRX for that much.

Then I guess it just depends on where you are, around here you won't pick up a WRX for under $18,500 regardless of the mileage.

Even if it is possible to find a WRX for around $15k, the RS is probably the better choice for you. Sure a WRX would be great, but your (already tight)budget will be stretched by a higher insurance premium and dont forget to make an allowance for running costs. Go with the RS

Would you rather own a stock WRX or a modded RS? I'd rather have a modded RS personally.

and if you go for the RS then mod it out you will still have an "RS" in the insurance companies eyes. Go RS

Of course, if you do this the insurance company will only give you the value of the RS in the event of writing the car off as well as not allowing you to remove the mods when they take the car.
Also keep in mind, that some mods will void any insurance claim in the event of a write off situation as they can say that the mods you made rendered the car unsafe and they will not be responsible for the damages.

I am not making this up, I have seen it happen.

if you can only spend 15, I'd get the RS. My insurance company will void my claim if I go forced induction without telling them and then wreck it. Of course, if I tell them, they'll increase my premiums. But if I don't tell them, I'll be hurtin later on down the road.

find a 99 or 00 rs2.5. It's a better looking car for one, it's a lighter car. It has a 2.5l engine so there is more potential for mods over the 2.0l wrx engine. It is a 2 door which means it will cost more than a 4 door car, however, the fact that it is not turbocharged will easily make up for the difference. IMO, the 2-door RS is the best looking and easiest to drive of all the impreza's except for the sti. If you have 40 grand to throw at a car, then go for the STi with some mods (I don't have 40 grand either) but since you are on a budget, the 2-door rs is probably your best bet.

Re: wrx or RS

If you get an '00 or '01 RS Sedan (instead of coupe,) you'll get a break on your insurance.

i have priced 2dr and 4dr RS through www.nada.com and have found that the 2dr goes for less. I personally like the more aggressive look of the 01 and earlier imprezas
