Junkyard Turbo Prices?? Would I need an engine build up??

Well i have a Jdm Zc. I want to run a junkyard turbo(i've heard go for 300-400 ranges for the hole package; hope its true). If so this is something i'm interested in but wont i also have to build up for the turbo? I have no clue how the turbo affects the zc with stock internals but i do not want to be blowing my motor anytime soon. Another question of mine is; i know that the intercooler for the dsm turbos are the little air filter looking ones i was wondering if you could upgrade an intercooler on just any turbo. for say an apexi intercooler greddy ish even just plain front mount intercooler. if possibly would it bring better results?

Outlines Questions From Above:
1. What are junkyard turbo average prices?
2. What would i need to make my motor ready for a junkyard turbo?
3. Can i upgrade intercooler and other parts on a junkyard Turbo?

I would say the real price of a junkyard setup is closer to $800-$1000, especially if it's your first time. Still, that's much much cheaper than a real kit.

If you ran low boost, (5-9psi) you won't have to worry about your motor blowing up.

You can upgrade anything off a junkyard setup. For an intercooler, you could grab an intercooler off a Starion, they are pretty big intercoolers and can be had for around $100.

Re: Junkyard Turbo Prices?? Would I need an engine build up??

1) I got mine for $200. Everything I needed except IC piping
2) If you will be running low boost, 5-8 psi you should be ok just tune it good. Anything over that you should think about some aftermarket internals.
3) You can use any IC. You run a charge pipe from your turbo to the IC so any IC will work.

You should be able to build one for $5-600 depending on how cheap stuff is at your local junkyard... You shouldnt pay more than $150 for a turbo, look for mitsu starions chrysler conquest, eagle talons, mitsu eclipse, Merkurs (rare australian built ford, comes with t3). shouldnt pay more than $50 for an eclipse side mount intercooler, shouldnt pay more than $30 for a 1g eclipse blow off valve. For piping, the cheapest route is to order two $25 cold air intakes for a 94+integra off ebay(integra cai has lots of bends) plus the intake on your car now will give you plenty of bends to cut up and put back together with some silicon connectors Get a used FMU to start you out, and start saving up for an Apexi AFC, and some mitsu turbo injectors. BTW, the side mount intercooler from an eclipse is plenty of intercooler for any streetable d series.

Man, you should hit up Jon @ http://www.thedropshop.tv

He's got a 4g Civic with a turbo'd ZC pushin' some nice hp...somethin' like almost 300hp to the wheels.

He's been there & done that and can probably help you out as much (if not more) than we can.

Re: Junkyard Turbo Prices?? Would I need an engine build up??

you need a turbo manifold turbo down pipe piping for ic and ic to throttle body vaccum lines for wastegate blow off valve and you want a boost gauge to know that the wastegate is working (my friend didnt do this right now i own the car cuz i rebuilt it detonations a bitch) make sure your not going to be pushing 12 lbs on stock internals that should be about it
