Angry Removing a water pump an a 94 318

I am in the process of replacing the water pump in a 1994 dakota, 5.2l 318. t was wondering if anyone had any advice for removing the large nut that holds the fan clutch and fan to the water pump. I have a hayes manual and it tells me to use a prybar against the pulley bolts to hold the pulley from turning with the nut. I tried this method and it is a horible method. My prybar kept sliding off of the bolts. Does anyone have any better ideas? I was thinking of using a strap wrench on the pulley surface. thanks

Do you have an airhammer?? If not, borrow one. Then, with the serpentine belt on, hit the left edge of one of the hexes of the viscous drive. And .............. voila !!!!

what i do is put the wrench on while the belt is still attatched and give the wrench a good smack with a good sized hammer the impact breaks it free. make sure your turning it the right way some fan clutches have reverse threads.

My only recommendation is to not use a chain wrench. My pulley is full of marks from the last idiot that had the truck.
