Talon ripoff?

Sorry about the previous statement. What I meant was would a 95' Talon TSI FWD with 114,000 miles and a blown head gasket be worth 3,750 or would I be getting ripped off. The car looks brand new, there are no visual blemishes such as rust or dents it has all the extras such as leather, power everything including a sliding sunroof, alloy wheels with brand new tires. All that is wrong is the head gasket is blown, also I noticed whenever you really get on it and then let off the gas a big puff of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. Would this have to do with the bad head gasket or is this something else? When you let the car idle for an extended period of time it does not smoke only when you really push the car hard and then let off the gas. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Talon ripoff?

well first thing is check the dipstick for antifreeze in the motor, if theres antifreeze in the motor the oil will look milky looking if there is the motor will need to be rebuilt, cuz the bearings are gonna be washed out and for that much money yes i think thats a rip off. I just got a 95 tsi awd 4 months ago with 96,000 miles and i only payed 4,500 for mine and its in mint shape, fully loaded moon roof and all.

Re: Talon ripoff?

The Talon is in mint shape, every option is included such as leather, power everything, sliding motorized sunroof, alloy wheels and the body does not haver a bit of rust or any other defects, it looks brand new. It's just the fact that the head gasket is blown.

Re: Talon ripoff?

The River;
Sounds like it's a risky buy. I'm bothered that the owner would be ok with letting you drive it (and get down on it) if it has a blown head gasket.

Definitely do as Talon69 suggests, check the oil to be sure it isn't getting diluted with anti-freeze. Also, I don't know how good you are at working on cars, will you pull the head, or bring it to a shop? It could get pretty expensive for you to have this repair work done by someone else.

One more thing. If you do buy it, don't drive it until you fix the head. My guess is that this car may be running on the original timing belt. If it goes, you could be looking at some really big bucks for repairs.

Re: Talon ripoff?

i would agree with the checking the dipstick for antifreeze. i also agree with the theory that it is running on the original timing belt. let me tell you, i went through that already and it is a very costly fix. it is better if you replace it before it goes. it should be replaced every 50k-60k miles (someone correct me if i am wrong), and if it goes, you may also have to worry about bent intake valves. the valves alone in the head shop cost me around $600 for six bent valves. talons are expensive to fix because of the price of parts and labor being high. you can find a mint talon with the same or lower mileage for less money, my advice is just keep looking man.
