Re: 96 Lt1 To 383 Stroker Carburator

i wouldn't bore it .060" over that when you start running into problems and the motor would need to be re-sleeved if you had to rebuild it again. the standard for a 383 is borred .030 over with a 3.75" stroke. i'd buy a kit with a good 4340 forged crank, good conecting rods and about 10:1 compression forged pistons(i like keith black). you'll want a cam that makes lots of torque at the low end since it's going in a truck. call up comp cams 1-800-999-0853
and ask what they recomend. you'll need to get an intake from gm performance parts and probably a gm hei distributor. try to locate a good machine shop ahead of time they'll need the pistons and crank to acurately do the work. get the shop to hot tank the block and install new cam bearings. if you put in a high volume oil pump you might need to upgrade the oil pan because they can run it dry. i'd go with a 750cfm carb probably a holley. you want torque more than power for a truck and this setup has 472 lb-ft torque and 398 horsepower acording to my desktop dyno by using a defferent cam these values will change quite a bit but generally you it is a tradeoff either max power or torque. if you put in a big ass cam you'll need to upgrade the valvesprings and timing chain/gears.

tanks for the coments but the machine shop done the bore .060 already and im gonna use a 4340 forged crank and 4340 rods and since i want to put NOS on the motor in the future im gonna get a set of forged speed pro pistons as well 11:1 compresion a 305 cam with a .555 lift i hope this set up works im gonna upgrade valve springs and im getting roller rockers and about the timing im not sure yet i appreciate your help

wow thats gonna be one hell of a motor!! are you gonna use it for racing??? with that much compression and cam you'll need super high octane fuel and it won't idle worth a damn. is your truck an automatic?? if it is make sure you get a torque convertor with a high enough stall speed to match the cam torque curve or it'll be slow off the line
