(PLEASE HELP)2001 Ram 4x4 Quad Cab 360 Rough Idle
I purchased the truck about 3 months ago(82 500km). The day I purchased it I told the dealer(used vehicle) that it Idled rough. He said Ok part of the deal is a tune-up (Plugs,Wires,Distributor and rotor button). I had that all changed and it made no difference. I then took it to the Dodge dealer and got them to check it. They did a test on the intake manifold and they said no vacuum leaks, all ok. The mechanic at Dodge suggested that I should get the Injectors removed and cleaned so I got them professionally cleaned, still no difference. I use supreme gas every fill-up and have installed a K&N air filter, changed PCV valve and can't seem to find the problem Or is it a problem? People say that the 360's have a bit of a hesitation on Idle. The truck works great except for that rough Idle.
Plug wires were from Dodge: the plugs are champion and the distributor and rotor are aftermarket Please Help Thanks :o) |

Re: (PLEASE HELP)2001 Ram 4x4 Quad Cab 360 Rough Idle
I changed to NGK plugs and they helped out with the rough idle. Also make sure the wires are routed properly.

Is it possible that your throttle positioning sensor could be causing your problem??
I have had similar problems in the past with a couple of Dodges, and that was the fix. I'd ask about that and see what your mechanic has to say. Just a thought. -slacker

on the back of your throttle body there is an IAC valve. (idle air control) There is two torx head screws holding it in, it is very common for these to get carboned up and need to be cleaned with carb cleaner. This valve controls the air at idle and when its dirty it dosn't respond to the computer commands correctly.

Re: (PLEASE HELP)2001 Ram 4x4 Quad Cab 360 Rough Idle
I have also had this problem on my 2001 ram QuadCab 1500 4x4 with the 360. i put in new plugs (autolite) and it made no difference at all. after that i changed the cap and rotor and it ran great for about 40 miles then went to crap again. then i changed the wires, it ran good for about 30 min and then started running rough again. i found a tsb on the wires and i will try rerouting them this weekend. i may go get factory plugs as well. one other thing i noticed was that under load starting at 1800rpm i hear light valve clatter. i think i will check the slack in my timing chain as well. i just love shooting in the dark. hope i hit something.

Re: (PLEASE HELP)2001 Ram 4x4 Quad Cab 360 Rough Idle
i'm betting on the tps and iac . the iac can be cleaned out just don't scrape the piston/plunger or the bore when you are cleaning it.
