96 Jimmy Stalling

I have read alot of post about this but thought I would give the details of my problem. I use it to deliver newspapers. I drive roughly 3-4 miles to start my route. It runs fine until I stop to throw the first paper, them it stalls. It starts right up, I drive a few feet and it stalls again, this goes on for about an hour. Then it runs fine. I don't always have to get out of the car so it is in drive. If I do have to get out, I put it in park. If I go from park to drive it will stall, hesitate. But if I go from park to neutral and give it a little gas, it will usually go without stalling. I had one 02 sensor changed about 3 months ago. the check engine light that was on for years went out. But it still stalled out alot. After about 3 weeks to one month, it ran great. No stalling, nothing. Then 5 days ago, the problem started again. Read somewhere the crank sensor could cause stalling so for the heck of it, I changed that. Did nothing. The thing has 130,000+ miles on it. But it looks good and is good for delivering papers. What do you guys think?

I should also add that even though it isn't stalling the RPM's fluctuate. I am guess from about 4000 to 6000. Also at times it revs like crazy. up around 20,000.

sounds like a fuel, intake, or O2 sensor. is the check engine light burnt out?

I would check the fuel filter, and all the vaccuum lines under the hood. check all the intake/air filter ducting and sensors.

you can take it to autozone and have them read the OBD2 code. if there is a fault you will know exactly then what it is.

Re: 96 Jimmy Stalling

Try checking your egr, it could be sticking. Unplug the hose going to it and plug off the end of the hose. If this solves your problem remove the egr and clean it out until it moves freely.
