I just got 94 with about 30,000 miles.
Does anyone know why O/D light flashes but tranny operation is normal. If I disengage O/D & wait till car shifts to 3rd - then turn button on, it will shift to 4th & no light flashes. If I don't do this then light will start flashing once tranny goes into 4th Maybe car has not been driven enough & this will go away?? Thanks |

if there is no malfunction with the transmission operation, you may just want to ignore it until you can have it look at by a transmission shop since the problem may just be electrical in nature ie. a loose connection. you may want to have the transmission serviced since it has been driven so little and have the transmission looked at when you have it done, remember a transmission should be serviced every 24,000 miles.

Re: 94 XR7 O/D light
Thanks - actually I figured it out.
I put in a new battery & did not take car through the driving sequence, as described in manual, to reset the computer. |

Re: 94 XR7 O/D light
Can you share sequence described in manual to reset computer? I've misplaced my owners manual.

94 Xr7 O/d
Driving sequence for battery change as follows:
1) Drive in typical city - stop & go - traffic for at least 10 minutes - after reaching normal operating temperature. 2) Idle vehicle for at least 45 seconds - the accelerate at part throttle to near 45MPH 3) cruise & maintain a select speed in the 30-40MPH range on level road with throttle held very steady for at least 1 minute 4) Repeat #3 but in the 40-65MPH range for at least 1 1/2 minutes 5) OBDII drive cycle is complete. For the flashing O/D light - you might also want to check all your plug wires as this could also cause problem. |
