SR20 not good for drag?

Ive heard that the KA is better suited for drag racing rather than the SR20 because of the powerband, can anyone clarify this?

Re: SR20 not good for drag?

s for the answer to your question, the ka24de-t makes power at lower rpmz so the power band is better for drag racing. th sr20det makes its power at higher rpmz so it may prove harder to drag race, also the fastest ka motor is in the 10sec range hte fastest sr20det powered car only does 11's..

It's not so much the powerband, it's everything that makes more sense. I mean that in drag racing, you're gonna blow something up eventually, and parts from a KA are about half as expensive as parts from an SR. That's the honest, simple answer. Another simple answer is that if you use the same turbo on both motors, the KA will make more power, specifically torque, because of the extra .4 liters of displacement it has. It just makes sense if you're gonna drag race only.

I could be wrong, but I think that there was an sr20de, and it came in the infiniti g20 I thought.

Like the old saying goes, there no replacement for displacement. More displacement results in more torque. Since HP = Torque x rpm/5252, there is a direct relationship between the 2. I'll take the motor with more torque, and more on the low end at that, myself. I'd rarther take extra torque at the low end than a little more power on the high end if I had the choice. The torque will find itself more useful, at least with me anyway.

The sr20det came in the 180sx (that one had the FWD sr20det bluebird I beleive)and the s13, s14, and s15 Silivias (the more commen rwd sr20det). The Skyline (r32, r33, and r34) came with the RB25 and RB26 motors (rb26dett, etc), not an sr20det.

Re: SR20 not good for drag?

go to
http://www.dragtimes.com/browse3.php...carmodel=240SX

they're not "ten second cars" but the SR doesn't seem to do poorly. At any rate, if you really want a drag engine, do an RB25DET swap.
