Power Shifting
Hi I'm just learning how to power shift and i have been screwing around with my car a bit and i can get it out of gear without the clutch but when i try and shift it from 1st to 2nd i cant get into 2nd gear. I was just wondering what else I might have to do. I have been reving the engine to about 3500-4000 rpms before shifting if that has anything to do with it. Thanks for any help what so ever.

as far as power shifting goes, when I'm at the track I shift into each gear by stomping the clutch and changing gears without ever taking my foot off the goes. It works quite well for me. I do this because it still shifts fast and if you power shift w/ no clutch whatsoever you can really mess up your gearbox.

Ya but taking it to the redline every time you shift can be bad for the car too.

And about the powershifting question . I do it in the track sometimes , i am not a big fan of it . But just engage your cluch and shift gears without letting go of the gas. , and it works for me. |

Staying on gas while shifting = GOOD
Shifting without clutch = BAD

Anyway, don't, I repeat DON'T do this, I say one more time for good measure, DON'T EVER try this when racing or you will kiss your synchros good-bye! If you do, you will be the jackass with your car on the tow-truck leaving the drag strip that the rest of us all laugh at. Not to mention the repair bill for your transmission that you will look forward to. True power-shifting is as stated earlier, shifting without taking your foot off the gas. And I opinions vary on this but here's mine. Unless you have a rev-limiter, don't even try it. And if you are bouncing the limiter when you shift you aren't really doing yourself much good. I go to 50% throttle for the instant that I shift and nail it again as my foot is coming back up off the clutch. That way I avoid redline, and my rpms are on the way back up when the clutch engages. The whole process still takes a fraction of a second to shift and is easier on your clutch, tranny and most important, engine. |

Re: Power Shifting
How do you shift without letting off the gas if you shift at redline? I assume you're talking about needing a rev limiter? Cause I don't have a limiter on any of my cars...hmm..nm, I'm a dumbass.

Re: Power Shifting
If you are experienced enough you can shift without the clutch if you get the synchronizer spinning at the right rpm when you shift but unless you are experienced your gonna need a new sync so i wouldn't recomend it.
