A question for those that have changed their timing belt.

How did you get the crank pulley off? This is for a 94 3.2L btw. Is there some kind of puller I need? Don't have Autozone here, so don't tell me to go there to get a tool.

Re: A question for those that have changed their timing belt.

If the 94 is anything like my 95.5 3.2L, no puller is needed, it should slide off after the bolt is removed. The manual mentions a pulley holder used to hold it while removing the center bolt, but if you use an impact wrench to remove the bolt, the holder may not be needed. If it is a 5 speed, put it 5th gear and use a breaker bar.

Yeah, I got the bolt off. Used the breaker bar and then bump the engine with the starter trick. I must just need to give the pulley a bit more incentive to come off.

Re: A question for those that have changed their timing belt.

I just double checked the manual, no puller is necessary. Maybe a rubber hammer and some grunting is all that is needed. Hey, CF. You in Spokane? Check my profile! Heh, we may be neighbors!

Good Luck,
Dale

Thumbs up Re: A question for those that have changed their timing belt.

I would but I'm out in the Valley, 32nd and Evergreen. Good luck finding the noise, it would drive me crazy. It sounds like you are on the right track though. Be sure to let us know what it is when you figure the problem out.

Got the pulley off. Took a little persuasion with a 3 jaw puller. Got the lower t-belt cover off and started the motor. I think the tensioner is bad. Looks like parts are moving that shouldn't be. It shouldn't be moving back and forth should it? I'm thinking not.

Ok, got it fixed. It was the tensioner. The little hydraulic "pusher". Cost $75.00. Wish I had another $100 to do the water pump and T-belt, but that will have to wait a couple weeks. Thanks for the help.
