speedo not working

I have a 90 accord ex 5spd manual and i cant digure out why the speedometer keeps cutting off. It usually doesn't work at all but some times it does i dunno if its a lose connection or what. But im really having probs not havin this thing work so if you could please help it would be great. Thanx

It sounds like you may have a bad VSS ... Vehicle Speed Sensor.

To make sure if it is indeed that and not the speedometer ... try this:

Hopefully you have cruise that works on your car. Let's assume that it does. Get going on the highway and get to cruising speed. Now ... set the cruise. If it holds ... then the speedometer is the problem. If it does NOT hold ... then the VSS is the culprit.
