supercharger instead of turbo?
i was wondering if it would be in my best intrest to get a supercharger and find a way to mount it to my 92 240.. i was thinking about putting one where the power sterring area is. this is the only place i would think that u could fit one. that is if this is possible at all.
peace! |

Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
well as far as i know no body makes them for the ka motors found in the 240s most everyone will shun you for thinking about this but i say if you can fab it you will be the MAN!
Turbo will be easier and cheaper make more power too probbly. But getting a s/c would be real awesome IMO and i think you just got giunie piged to being the first person to put a blower on there 240 lol |

Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
super chargers are good for bigger V8 engines, not inline 4s

Quote:
Crap. A super charger is suitable for any engine lay out, and were infact first used on inline 4s, i.e. 1920s blower bentlys. They have since been used most famously on the MK1 MR2, and lately on the Mini Cooper S. There is also a very large market in the US for supercharger kits for most Hondas, the most popular being the Integra, which takes extemly well to low pressure super charging. Mercedes is also making extensive use of supercharing on cars fiited with thier latest 4cyl engine range. The biggest problem with fitting an S/C to a 240sx, would be finding one with enough flow that was the right size to mount to the engine. You would have to build custom brackets to hold it as well, not hard if you have the right tools, but will require some enginering knowledge to make it strong enough. The best S/C I can think of would be from the JDM Toyota Crown. Its a 2l 6cyl, but the S/C is very compact, and extremly simple. Its simply a slightly larger version of the unit used on the MK1 MR2, and should flow enough air to get you about 6-8psi on your 240sx. For anything more you would have to look at an aftermarket unit, one of the companys manufactoring kits for Hondas should be able to supply you with a modfied unit, but you will have to your own custom piping to the inlet manifold. But you need to ask yourself if its worth it, based on what resources you have access to, and what your goals are. Given the popularity of turbo charging it has been developed to a much greater degree, and you will have to do a lot of work, and spend a lot of time and money to reach the same performance levels with a S/C.

from my understanding.....
.....there are no SC made for the 240SX from what many shops have said. They do make them from Hondas (yuk) and other high volume cars.
The best way to go is TURBO for the 240SX........8 PSI is possible w/o modification to stock KA. A hop here in Houston does this all the time. But the swap to SR or RB is very popular if you have the time. Good luck and long live the 240SX!! |

Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
I Think that a Super Charger would be more idea than a turbo. Turbo kits are a min of 2500 bux not including the pipeing and the compter stuff like turbo timer and is not the best way to go in my opinion. We need to find a way! I was thinking a charger from a vw jetta or passat would be idea since the jetta is a Inline 4 and about the same size engine and the charger is a small size and i think it blows 8 psi stock and 12 psi with diffrent pully...

Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
Actually.... they have Blown AE86's... inline-four. As for a SC 240...? There's a place in Whittier that can Supercharge any car! It has not been done to a 240 to my knowledge yet... but why waste the money on fabrication? You will probably get the same power if you swap in an SR20DET for more or less the same price! Don't SC's tend to OVERHEAT engines more than turbos anyway? Dont forget you will also have to swap out the engines ETERNALS... shit... you can probably get the SR20 and installation for the price you would pay for an SC conversion! STICK WITH AN SR20DET, kid!

Re: Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
i seen a supercharger for a 240 already. they make em (cheaper than turbos too).
but turbos are better. sorry i cant find where i found it last, i checked google for the last 30min but couldn't find it. but you can put one on if you get it custom made.

I've seen video of a s13 with a supercharged sr20.. it was pretty badass
Superchargers are also easier to maintain and more reliable....... |

Supercharging a 240 would be lamer than FDR's legs.

Re: supercharger instead of turbo?
i agree det is the way to go... but maybe lodownlv is looking for response over power? in that case a correct sized turbine will reduce turbo lag on a 2.0 liter engine... or a 2.4, or a 2.6... etc...
