What type of hp will you get out of a stock 305?
What type of hp will you get out of a stock 350?

I understand that the 305 is very similar to the 350, but I was wondering what the difference is in the hp of these two engines, stock.

LT1 is the corvette engine, right? With this engine you get about 275-300hp stock. Is this right?

What is the difference between the 305/350 engines and the LT1? I mean what is giving the LT1 the added hp. Can the 305 or the 350 be made into basically the equivelant of the LT1?

first, the LT1 is a 350. it's the vette motor with some more restricting engine components to lower it from the power put out in the vette.

the reason a 350 will put out more than a 305 stock to stock is prodominitly displacement. you're roughly talking .7 more liters of displacement- 5.0L vs. 5.7L

-the LT1 runs anywhere between 270-285hp stock.
-a stock 350 (crate motor) can be anywhere between 250-400hp depending on how it's tuned
-and im not sure what a stock 305 runs; i think in the 305 camaros they run 215hp, i might be wrong.

as for turning a 350 or 305 into a LT1 you can easily do so with a 350 by putting LT1 components onto the block- but i don't know why you would, when turning something INTO a LT1 you'd be MUCH better of using the LT4 setup or doing custom to get a hell of a lot more power. 305 im not sure if you can convert to a LT1.

Re: 5.0, 5.7, ...

you can not turn a 350 or 305 into an LT1 to my knowledge, they use an optispark system, and reverse flow cooling that is different from earlier style engines.

my stock 350 runs 230hp
my stock 305 runs 170hp

both are 1989 vintage. an IROC and RS respectively, i think in 1990 to 1992 the 350s were upped to 245hp stock.
the 215hp 305 was a TPI engine with the G92 performance option i think and had a different cam. than the norm which i think was 190hp for those years.
