Re: wat is the best skyline engine?
RB26DETT = 2.6L inline 6, Twin Turbo, used on R32-R34 GTR's = much better.
RB25DET = 2.5L I-6, Single Turbo, used on GTS-T's |

Re: wat is the best skyline engine?
"best" in what sense? Most power? Cheapest? Most economical? (if such a word can be applied to any engine from the later Skylines
) most driveable?Most potential power would lead you to the RB26DETT, no doubt. But for everyday driving I personally don't like them as much as an RB25DET. You need more revs to get them really going than you do with an RB25DET. Of course, go they definitely do, and I'm guessing that's probably what's going to influence your decision You could go with a CA18i from an R32 GXi - probably your most economical option But you might as well push the thing and run behind it. :hehe:

Re: wat is the best skyline engine?
well sort of Moon. If you put your small single turbo on an RB26 it would boost even quicker due to exhaust flow rate. Like wise put the twin setup from an RB26 on your motor and you would lag even worse.
At the end of the day the RB26 engine is the strongest full stop.

But what about an old L28 diesel?
You can't beat an oil burner for smooth torque delivery and economy ![]() (Im only saying that becuase I go caught in the smoke screen from an R30 GT-D this morning)

so the RB26DETT is of course the one to go for. My point is that there are different sorts of qualities that different people will be wanting from their engines, so "best" depends on that.

Re: wat is the best skyline engine?
True. I don't put down the RB25 as there are quite a few cars making some serious grunt with them. They are quite reliable also.

That's getting to be a popular swap in 240SXs here in the States, since the RB25 is cheaper and requires less work to swap than the RB26.

Re: wat is the best skyline engine?
If you want the best of all worlds, get a RB30E block, put a RB25DE head on it, and bolt two RB26DETT turbo's onto that. Then you've got real powa!!!

I have an L24E in my R30 GT, done 380,000kms no rebuilds and I just pulled 120 kmhr in 2nd gear @ 7000rpm, my blue smoke issues are over now that i am using new oil and oil filter that doesn't have petrol in it :P, and higher-grade fuel, although I get white smoke i think, and my new ex-turbo exhaust tip after this run tonight (first run with it) is like black on the inside :P,i want to get a L28 Twin Turbo for it, i have a Hemi 245 for free I can rebuild and put in if i want. |
