boost vac question

I just installed my autometer boost guage and it reads 15 VAC when the car is at idle. This is normal right? I didnt hook it up by the throttle body like alot of sources say....on the P hose i think. Instead if you are looking at the engine bay from the front of the car in the top right part of the engine there are two hoses one leads to the intake/throttle body and the other is not even connected to anything but it also has vacuum when the engine is at idle. Is that the fuel solenoid? Were does that stray hose connect. The guy who owned the car before me did more harm then good. Oh if it helps i have a 97' GST. I can post a pic of my engine bay if that helps too. Thanx in advance!
