Unhappy Actuator/Ignition

I have an 85 Burb. The actuator,I think that is what this is called. I know its connected to the actuator rod, has an opening in the middle and a half gear teeth on the end that contacts the ignition switch ( from backside of ignition switch) has broken. Does anyone out there have any idea how to replace this??????? I got ahold of another sterring column that has one mounted in it, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get that one out, or put it in my sterring column. Any help would be much appreciated. Please tell me that this is something really simple????? Thanks in advance. Milt

Re: Actuator/Ignition

I have the very same problem. I have the column torn down and the "actuator rack" is what the part with the gear teeth on it is called. My actuator is stuck in the column with the other end of the actuator rack. I think I will have to take the tilt part of the column apart next. I am looking for step by step directions on how to do this. I have a diagram from a chiltons book, but it just tells the parts and the drawing is not very good. Any help would be appreciated. Re: Actuator/Ignition

The tilt will probably have to come out. I've done it in an '89 and its kind of a pain. If it's the same, you'll have to pull a couple of pins with a slide hammer. Haynes has pretty fair instructions on how to do it.
While you're in there is a good time to change bearings and plastic knuckle.
