1997 Dodge Grand Caravan - Egr??
Hi,
Hope someone can help with this. I have a 97 Grand caravan, with 120k v6. WHen I go to start it, it wil idle rough for a few s econds then kill, if I manage to get it to stay ideling, as soon as I put it in gear, or when I'm driving and I have to either stop or slow down for a turn, it will kill. Sometimes it may take a minute or two to get it going again. I took it to my mechanic and he told my wife that he did something to a valve (she doesnt take very good messages) so I assumed he was talking about the egr valve being stuck and he got it unstuck. It worked for a week then it happened again. This time when he ran it through the computer it said the 3 cil was misfiring, so he replace the plugs and wires and fuel filter. Worked ok until this morning where I am having this problem again. So does this sound like a failed or stuck egr valve? I'm tired of taking this thing in..Any help would be appreciated.. |

This sounds like a stuck idle air control (IAC) valve. This valve comes into play when the engine is cold & will cause the concerns you describe. Very common & easy to fix issue. I'm not sure the 3.3L even has an EGR system. IIRC- they just use valve timing to achieve EGR- so it shouldn't be that. A good cleaning of the IAC valve should solve this!
