S13-few questions and queries

hey im new to the forum, just to introduce myself my names luke, im nearly 18 and im from AUS.

basically, as a first car i wanted a 180sx, so i had a look at some car sights and the average price for a 180sx was 15 grand, which is way out of my price range. so i did some research and i found out that the S13 and 180sx are very similar, instead S13's are about twice as less, at about 8grand. my Q's are, does n e body here have an S13?? if so, are they quite reliable? and are parts easy to get in aus? another thing, do you think i should import one from jap, or buy one here in aus? i am thinking of gettin the 2 litre sr20det, what do you think? and before i buy one, i should defineately get a qualified mechanic to check it 'inside out' right? just to make sure it has not got a bent chassis or n e other probs.

thanx in advance , luke

Cool

S13's are good reliable cars. I have had mine for two years now and the only problem I have had has been a flat battery. In my quest to modify my car as much as possible, I have broken a set of projector headlights, which were easily replaced with the help of a japanese wreckers in Newcastle. You might not be able to get a good turbo car for 8 grand, but you could get a good N/A one for that much. They look sporty and they hold there age very well. I am very happy with mine and cant see myself ever getting rid of it. I think either of the CA or SR engines are great. Everybody has different opinions on this. CA engines are older but they seem easier to work on.I have an SR but would most likely be just as happy with a CA.
