What year 240sx?

I am sorry if this has been covered before. I searched and did not find an exact answer.

I am thinking about getting a 240sx, and here are my questions:

1. Is there a particular year that is better than others. (does is have to be "newer is better")

2. If I get a 240sx as old as a 1991, can it be converted into a s15 with s15 sr20det?

3. I know that the s15 sr20 has about 20-30 more hp than the s14 sr20, but does this make the sr15 a bettter engine than the s14, or are they about the same after upgrades?

Thanks for all the help.

Read the FAQ, it will help you gain some perspective on this. Yes, you can convert the front of a 91 to an S15, and yes you can make the S15 SR fit in there. However, you will be much better off buying an S13 SR for alot of reasons. The S15 SR will not go directly in there, and the 6 speed tranny it comes with sucks. Plus it costs twice as much as the other SRs. Go to www.srswap.com to learn all you wanna know.

Re: What year 240sx?

Why do you say that the "s13 is better for a lot of reasons?" (other than being cheaper)

What about the s14 sr? I know that you can "make" it fit, but will it be a better enginge (for the 1991 240sx), without running into the 6 speed tranny problems of the s15?

Re: What year 240sx?

The S13 has a higher flowing head. The ports from the intake are a straight shot into the cylinder, while on the s14 and s15 sr's the intake path curves a little bit before entering the cylinder. This allows for better flow and also the higher redline on the s13 sr (7500 RPM compared to 7200 RPM on the s14 and s15). I think the biggest factor though with the s13 sr is the amount of money that you will save by getting this one. If you went with the s13 sr and saved thousands, then you could put that extra money into beefing up the motor or putting it into something else such as suspension. like j spec nitemare said, the faq at www.srswap.com will help you with a lot of your questions.

Cmon man, the links we've given you answer all of these questions. The only reason that the S15 SR is stronger is because it has a better tubro and VVT, which sucks for high horsepower applications anyways. You can find SRs all over the place, but I woulnd't reccomend ebay for reliability reasons. Heavy Throttle (srswap.com) is a company with a very good reputation, but if you look around you can find everything you need a little cheaper than what they offer. READ FAQ's. On this site, and srswap.com. It will tell you EVERYTHING you wanna know and more. Here are the links:
