Angry Warning Chime Won't Stop

I shut my engine off, and the chime keeps dinging away like the key is in the ignition or I have left my lights on, but I haven't done either. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a '93 SL1
Thanks in advance!

Same problem

I have had the same problem. When i put my key in the egnition it pushes in which makes the know that there is a key in there. Well for some reason that piece that is able to slide in and out seems to be stuck in. And for some reason i am able pull out my key. The way i fixed it is that i was in a hurry to leave my car one day and i pulled the key out really fast and it pulled that piece back out. so now when i put the key in it pushes in, and when i pull the key out the piece moves back out.

Unfortunately it's not the metal piece in the ignition (Checked it already). The chime sometomes stops if I latch the lap belt. However, this morning, my battery was dead, but the chime worked.... It's a brand new battery, and a new alternator, so something must be draining it,

Re: Warning Chime Won't Stop

you should take the relay out that allows the chime to work that would solve the annoying chime problem. your battery was probably drained down from it chimming all night it just didnt have enought juice to start the car but enough to keep the chime going. i dont know if this will fix it but there is a chance that it might work. plus if you ever go to drop your steering column and want to listen to the radio you wont have it chiming right next to your head. thas how i got rid of mine it got annoying so i threw it across the street and havent seen it since. hope this helps

I have the same problem. Basiclly everything is reversed in that I mean when you car is off and the sholder belt is attached, the chime goes off, when the car is running and the sholder belt is attached and the drivers door is opened the chime does not go off? Crcavallo, do you keep cold drinks next to the E-brake lever? If so, the sweat from the bottle will leak down on and into the seatbelt control module, frying it. The previous owner of my baby had that happen twice, the first time they took it to the dealer, and was told that the module was fried. $150 later everything worked untill they kept setting drinks down there next to the E-brake handle. If you want to spend the money, that will fix your problem. Here's Saturn's part# 21021434 but I just live with it... When I turn off the car, I just remove the sholder belt from the clip and retract it... Keeps the chime from going off when I open the door.

Hope this helps...

Re: Warning Chime Won't Stop

Here is an update to my last post... I finely got tired of listening to the door chime, and tore into my car to get the module out. Turns out the module had coca cola syrup mucking up the connections. Cleaned it all off with a grease eating enzyme cleaner, let it air dry in the sun, plugged it back in, and now everything works!! Woo Hoo... I'm so happy. If anyone would like pics of said module, let me know...

Its because of the electrical part of the ignition switch, located on the bach of the lock cylinder housing. It can be replaced without removing the housing, but you have to know what youre doing, its a very tight fit and you have to have a small 5.5 mm wrench. If you ask me its not worth the money or effort to fix, unless it really bothers you that much.
