'96 Low Oil Light

My low oil light is set about 50% of the time. I use to think it happend when starting the car while parked on a hill, but now it is happening even when the car is level. Obvisouly, I've checked the oil - and everything is fine. So I'm assuming that I have a sensor that is beginning to fail. Anyone have any experience with this? Where is the sensor located (can it be easily reached), any way for the home mechanic to test it? expensive to replace?

Sensor threads in to the right front portion of the oil pan, near the filter. I think it's an easy R&R and a cheap dealer part.

Re: '96 Low Oil Light

All I can say is damn. I didnt have to replace mine as after a few days the warning went away and hasnt returned. The price for a AC Delco part for my 97 is $26.90. I checked on the same part for a 96 and it is $57.32. I dont know what the difference is between the 96 and 97 oil sensors but off hand Id have to say about $31.

Yes, the part looks kinda like a "shotgun shell" I think this part is in the way when trying to R & R the AC unit! I know I had to replace the sensor soon as the AC unit was recharged with 134a & the compressor was installed. I started the car (Oil pressure sensor) came on. It was just hangin by a thread. So maybe someone bumped it?
