Oxygen sensor replacement?
I have a '95 Ultra. I don't think the oxygen sensor has ever been replaced - 150,000 miles. I've read some sources that say it should be replaced every 60,000 miles or so as regular preventive maintenance. The car is running fine, and the only problem is that gas mileage has been a little lower than I think it should be. Does anybody have any advice on whether or not it should be replaced?
Thanks. |

Re: Oxygen sensor replacement?
Testing components are the determining factor for the replacement of parts. Typically, O2 sensors become lazy with age, however, it is also possible for the colder weather to adversely affect mileage. The O2 sensor should test up to 1 volt with the mixture rich, and down to .2-.1 volts when the mixture is lean, and it should switch rather quickly between extremes. If you have questions regarding its condition, they are relatively cheap. Just do not use the cheap units. Buy a good one if you want to trust it. Ray

Thanks for your advice Ray. When you say "a good one", do you have any recommendations? Or do you just mean a factory GM one?

I would recommend a GM dealer Oxygen sensor.
Good Luck
