Well, i good way to still to the track, or street in my case, is to get proformance suspension. This will keep the tires on the ground and from spinning and will help a lot with your get up and go. Also if you put on some sway bars they would help the handling, and this in turn will help you keep the wheels down.
Thats my $0.02 worth.

intake, headers, exhaust. let your engine breathe easier. Get a K&N cone coldair intake on ebay. Look around for some performance headers, and get a hiflow cat and custom wider catback system. All of this will free up some of the restrictions placed on the air moving in and out of your engine. It will give you a bit more power. Nothing huge, but it will help. The headers may be a bit harder to find, but the intake and mufflers you can get cheap on ebay. then just take the mufflers to meineke or something and get them 2 build you a catback system. It will make your car louder, so be aware of that. Basically, it's a relatively small engine so there isn't that much potential to take advantage of. However, if you have the money and want to keep that specific car, you could always get a turbocharger to give you a significant boost in horsepower. The suspension and swaybars are good advice, aftermarket suspension/lowering springs are a good way to improve your cornering as the previous post mentioned. But aren't really that necessary/cost effective as a first performance upgrade. If you want the lowered look, then by all means go for it. If you do decide to upgrade your suspension to give you more grip. The simpliest/cheapest way is to get tower strut bars. These will tighten up your frame and chasis and allow you to corner at faster speeds. Eitherway, have fun.

Careful with sunfires when going to larger exhaust pipes they rely on backpressure quite a bit. therefore you would lose horsepower

back pressure

i didn't mean to upgrade to 3 inch exhaust pipes, that would be a bad idea. All cars rely on backpressure, a bit. But getting a 2.5 inch catback isn't going to reduce hp or hurt the car at all, it will help.

Re: easy ways to improve 0-60 time frame?

dude, you have the 2.2 right? i used to have a 2000Z24 and was really into the whole j-body sceen. basically unless you go forced induction, turbo, super charger, nitrous, your not gonna get anywhere with it... I've heard guys running every bolt on you can get and still not breaking 15's..In all honesty, the best thing you can do is keep it for a beater, and go buy something fast.. leave it stock so that it's reliable and just buy a fast car to start.. No sense in killing your wallet on something that really isn't made or can go fast.. With my Z24, i had the twin cam 2.4.. in it i had, aem intake, aem pulley, cat back exhaust, gutted cat, throttle body, fuel pressure regulator, short shifter, drag radials, and a fuel rail.. with all that done the best time i saw at the track was a 15.3.. And i think that is mainly because i'm an experienced driver.. all the other Z's and sunfires were running mid 16's to 18seconds...

what about those performance chips? are those a good idea or can they hurt the car?

Re: easy ways to improve 0-60 time frame?

The debate continues over chips...my own personal viewpoint is that there are some that work, and ALOT that don't. Basically, there are performance tuning chips that you can buy and tune your car or truck. These cost a few hundred and you actually tune them. There are also plenty sold on ebay which lie to your ecu about the ambient temperature of the oxygen going through the Mass Air sensor. The ECU thinks that the air is colder and therefore containing more oxygen and dumps more fuel into the engine to compensate. This makes you run richer which doesn't give you more hp, but ruins your gas mileage and such. Personally I wouldn't buy anything off ebay, and any chip or ecu upgrade I would make sure that I trusted before buying it.

Re: easy ways to improve 0-60 time frame?

ill go with igovert500 thats some pretty sound advice but id opt for going with a junkyard turbo it wont cost that much more than the exhaust upgrades and youll get more out of it.

p.s. nice comeback phantom.. i realize sunfires arent the fastest car and wont be. but the point is making what you have better and unique from others. not just buying a car thats fast off the lot and bragging on it, like you made it that way.

Re: easy ways to improve 0-60 time frame?

Go to junk yard for an alero ho intake and throttle body or ream the edge of the throttle body that you have. HO, is a centimeter larger. I had 1999 that was a rocket.
