Re: D16 with turbo

Go to www.homemadeturbo.com this site has all the info you need to build turbo d16's. I was going to boost my CRX d16a and just decided to go with an NX wet kit. To build the best reliable turbo setup would have cost me about $2000. The NX kit with upgrades was less than $1000. With just a 35 shot and a stronger clutch it could take any stock turbo import out here. Even the WRX and GSX Eclipse. I still need to try the 50 shot. The only thing that sucks is the frequent fill up. I go through 15Ibs of nitrous a week about $58.00. I'll probably still build the turbo for the CRX but the nitrous kit was too tempting. D16 turbo and nitrous coming soon.

Re: D16 with turbo

you can't run 2 filters on the turbo setup.. you run from the turbo compressor to the intercooler, then on the piping from the intercooler to the throttle body is where you put the blow off valve, these are called chargepipes. you also can run a filter off the compressor housing to let it filter out the air just like an intake filter does. but if the piping from the turbo compressor to the throttle body is not connected together you will not be boosting but you will ruin the turbo extremely fast. i'm on www.homemadeturb.com and my set up hasn't costed more than $600 and i've got everything, not no $2000.. you can buy a Greddy turbo kit for $1300 so where does he get $2000 from??? i dunno but its not that hard if you have everything.

Re: D16 with turbo

I got the $2000 cost of the turbo setup because I was going to use the Zdyne Gold SECU for fuel management with high flow injectors. That alone is $1200. Zdyne is perfect because it is programable and can run various engine set-ups. Basically whatever I do to any motor I put in my CRX the ECU can be programed to control it. The turbo and parts cost less than $800. Boosting a D16 is cheap but you get what you pay for. My advice for any turbo build is that fuel management should be the first investment. There are other options and less cost for fuel management but I think Zdyne is the best option for serious tuners.

"running with 2 filters opposed to an intercooler setup."
What to filters have to do with intercooling? The jobs they perform are not related in the slightest!!! A filter goes before the compressor wheel of the turbo to prevent it from suckin in airborn particles, wearing your compressor wheel and your engine. An intercooler reduces the temperature of the air coming out of the compressor...
You could run 5 filters or even better an open compressor wheel and a guy with 1 filter and an intercooler will beat you every time(unless its a very restrictive filter our intercooled friend is running)
