Question Daytona Engine Problems

I don't quite know what this problem is caused by or why it happens but here goes... While under hard acceleration, usually 3/4 throttle to flooring it, the motor begins missing before shifting, usually around 4,000 rpm. I'm hoping its just a knock sensor or throttle positioning sensor, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

check the throttle body. it's probably all gummed up right behind the butterfly(throttle valve) this is a common problem with dodges. could also be the tps bad plugs/wires/cap&rotot, map sensor plugged fuel filter. a whole bunch of possibilities give it a good tuneup(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, clean throttle body) and it should be fine

Well, so far, I have replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, and air filter. I have a few more details I can throw in though. The problem happens without a pattern. It usually gets worse as engine heat increases and a general miss is being detected. Thanks in advance and thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

a clogged fuel filter will give the car kind of a "chugging" feeling under heavy acceleration if it only happens at a certain rpm theres probably a deadspot on the tps. you can check the tps with a scan tool or an ohm meter. a deadspot on the tps will give the same feeling because the engine will be starving for gas

Angry

This thing never ceases to piss me off...It won't start now. The motor turns, the fuel pump pumps, and the coil sparks but the plug wires don't spark. The wires, distributor cap, and rotor are brand new. I don't think I will ever get this thing running correctly. Sheesh! If anyone can tell me a possible solution, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks in advance!

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

i think it's on the drivers fender but not too sure. follow the coil wires they will lead you to it. another thing to check is distributor pick up. do you know if the injectors are pulsing? . one more thing to check. does the distributor rotate while cranking?? when you say you have spark at the coil is this when it's cranking ?? i guess they call that thing a smec(single module engine controller) not that it makes any difference it provides the pulse to the coil but needs input from the pickup.

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

This is the thing: The coil is putting out spark to the distributor. The rotor is turning but the spark is stopping at the distributor. So the coil is getting power and is producing spark but it isn't making it all the way to the plugs.

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

interesting. might be a weak coil or bent connection on the rotor. check the resistance of the coil primary and secondary leads if you have an ohm meter i'm not exactly sure what they should be for your car but most are around 1ohm primary and 10,000-15,000 secondary. did you replace the coil wire? make sure there is continuity across the rotor. it's funny how a simple problem can turn into such a pain in the ass.

You guys know more about this than I do, but my 2.2 had occasional spark too. It would start, run fine for a while, and die suddenly. After that there was no spark. A new pickup coil fixed the problem- it was actually an easy fix for once.

Re: Daytona Engine Problems

Ok, i got a sound byte of what the car is doing, but it is kinda hard to tell still. Listen to it with headphones or with the bass low on your speakers.

It's 15 seconds long and 646 kb so it might take a bit to load. On dialup, it should take about 2 mins at the most (I hope)...I'll try to get it in mp3 format so its smaller. Will post it as soon as i got it located on a server.

I couldn't drop the quality so i left it as a wav file. For best clarity, use headphones.
