thinking about a civic

i am thinking about buying a civic but before i go out and get one i want to get all the info i can , what i want is a civic coupe , don't care about power windows , locks and other stuff like that , don't really care if it as A/C or not , guess what i am asking is what is the sleeper model of the civic's , alot of people of told me to get a civic SI with a DOHC V-TEC , but what year? , would like to get a car with the most base HP/torque , i don't really want to do a engine swap just yet because i am new to import mods and i want to learn all i can about the different engines out there , not looking to turbo/supercharge one , just want to do basic stuff intake/exhuast and fuel/ignition. this will be the first honda that i have done anything to other the general shop work , all my expertise is in domestics. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: thinking about a civic

If you want horsepower....don't get a Civic.

The best horsepower for your money I think is to go with a teg... If I could go back I woulda chose an Integra over my Civic...

Let me rephrase that...the best horsepower from a Honda for pretty cheap is a teg...

Re: thinking about a civic

dx coupe, dohc engine swap... YESSSS I know you say you don't want to do a swap right away, etc. but it would be worth it! and leave the outside stock with the DX badges on it and a quiet exhaust... lol

Re: thinking about a civic

I agree. A civic was not meant to be fast, it was not meant to be a sports car. I think its more of an economy car. Your best bet would probably be a teggy.

I was going to suggest this before I actually read his post and said he didn't want to swap. You can pick up a 5th gen (92-95) Civic DX for dirt cheap. I mean in the range of 1500-2500 here with the body and interior in good condition. Drop about another $2500-3000 on a swap and you have quite the competitor there. And at half the price of what you would spend on the Si. You said you could care less for all the creature comforts so this is the route that I would go.

Re: thinking about a civic

IMO, 5th gen coupe/hatchback looks better than any of the 6th gens.

thanks for the info all , i have thought it over and i think i will go the civic dx route ,i am not going to do anything to the outside and i will most likely leave the stock rims on it , since i am looking for a sleeper i thinking going with a integra would kinda give it away , i have no problem doing the swap i just don't know what type of engine and manual trans i should be looking for to do the swap , i know where i can pick a dx for cheap with no engine/trans , so if i go with the dx what should a stick in it? really don't want to spend a ton of money on this but i want it to be worth my time , thanks again for any and all help

Re: thinking about a civic

What do you want to do with the motor? NA? FI? When I was shopping for mine I was looking for 3 engines... the b16a, b18b, b18c. What I ended up with is the b18c. I would love to tell you what I think of it but it is not yet in the car. You can find motor swap info at the top of the '92+ Civic forum. Browse though that for a bit.

and i bet when people see 96'ish eclipses they go "ooooh fast" when i pull on the ever "sporty" looking GS's with my bone stock accord, wheel hop and all. best thing to do as far as civics... get an EF or an EK, drop in a B series... bam cheap and quick

if you want a civic with decent power in a coupe and dont want to swap go 99-00 Si... id say hatchys are better though...
