ok here is the thing the guy at the dealership said that the engine in our lancers(US) is the same engine that is being put into the Evo Vlll yes thats eight. he said that it is going to be single cam and that the one in our lancers is the 4g63 and not a 4g93. i dont know; however, i would really like to find out what the fuck kind of engine is in my car. can someone give me a web address or something where it says the exact kind of engine that is in our lancers. i cant find that shit anywhere!!! help me out

Dumbass

The 4g63 id the DOHC model that has the read top, standard in eclipses for 10 years, the 4g93 is the SOHC version of the motor, unsure yet if the heads are interchangable. No the U.S. lancer is not a 4g63, it is a 4g93.

Engine Model

It states what engine model is in your car if you look in that book that the dealership gave you with the car, you know the maintinnce book and stuff in your glove box, I thinkl thats where I saw it, either way, I did see it, and it is the 4g93

Possibility

Well, both motors are a 2.0, there for, theoretically, they should be the same. Someone should try to mount the head of the 4g63(cyclone)on our 4g93(unknown). Until then, your guess is as good as mine

I have read that it can be done. Im sorry that I dont have a link to that site. There are 5 holes on the DOHC head that have to be filled for it to work properly. I dont remember which ones they are though. But it can be done.

We don't get the same Lancers you guys do down under. We have a 2.0l SOHC 4g94 (not the 4g93, but essentially a bored and stroked variant). As it's been showed already, there was never any chance in hell of the Evo 8 using anything other than the 4g63.

hahaha, i cant believe this post has gone this far....the 4G94 and 4G63 are so very different in everyway, and the fact that there is no possible way to put an EVO motor in a US lancer and vice versa. no part is interchangeblae from the motors and that includes the heads. besides the trannys dont line up either.

Yeah, was gonna say, the 4G93 is a 1.8L.
Aus gets the new (look like EVO 7) Lancers now too with the 2L engine. They are bloody ugly! ES Lancer or something (Cedia in Japan). I dunno how they made such an ugly car into the EVO 7 & 8.

not all 4G63 engines are turbo; I have a 1990 Galant GTi with a non-turbo version of the 1989 VR4 engine in it, altho I woudlnt know if they offered this version outside the UK.

Most of that generations Gallant in Japan had either a non-Turbo 4g93 or 63. And Im sure the few cars that were sold new here in NZ had the 4g63 in non turbo form.
And of course there were non-Turbo versions of the Starion which used the old 8 valve 4g63.
