1985 22R-E Celica Good? huh?

Alright, my dad bought me a 1985 22R-E Celica GT-S (4 cylinder 2.4L), not the Celica Supra everyone is expecting. He told me it's a good car to study and work on. He also told me it's a fast car and is great if I know my way around it. I don't know whether to trust his judgement or not.

All I know is that my dad is really good with cars. He owns a 1982 Nissan 280ZX Turbo (430hp). He's like one of those old skoo ricers back in the 80s. (I remember him racing that car when I was little).

Basically, how good is this car overall? and Should I trust his judgement on this car? (I'm not paying for it, he just got it for me out of random)

oh yeah, I was about to get a 1991 Nissan 240SX, but i'll wait for your recommendations.

On another thing, he says Hachi Roku's (1985/86) Corollas are weak overall.

I think the Celica you are referring to is a hatch? Same body as a Supra right??? Should be a good car to drive... I'm assuming you are also going to drift it? Sounds like a good platform but I'm not too familiar with these cars... but overall they are good cars.
I have to stand up for the 240sx... good cars and plenty of power to get you sideways!
As for the Hachi's... yes, your dad is right... they are not very strong with the stock engines (although I have seen some monster Hachi/Rokus with Superchargers)... but drift is not about POWER (although it helps when you become more seasoned)!
I'd say your pops (Bunta?) knows what he is talking about... it's just up to you to decide which car you like more!

Re: 1985 22R-E Celica Good? huh?

Hachi Rokus are very underpowered, but if you wanna drift, its not important, you just stay on the gas pedal more when drifting an underpowered car, plus they can be made pretty powerful if thats what you wanna do with it, I plan on getting one as my second car sometime next year(sooner if I get a better paying job over the summer) they are great cars, 240's are great too, pretty underpowered as well, but a little more powered than the AE86(Hachi Roku incase you don't know), don't know much about celicas, I don't even know if that car is RWD or not so I couldn't give you advice on that. Since I have an rx-7 I gotta throw it out there, great drift cars, turbos have great power, non-turbo has decent power and plenty to start driting with(so do the other cars mentioned)

props to your dads car, 280's are nice

GTZ-?
Why would you waste your money importing a car that is almost 20 yrs. old? It's no SKYLINE or SILVIA, man! Are you daft? Our GTS is a good platform! If you want to go all out... just IMPORT a JDM engine or just supercharge the stock engine!
