I took my car to the dealership & they ran the dignostics on it($65) and came up with Code #P1404. they said they cleaned the ERG valve and cleared the code. they say they test drove it for about ten miles. Guess what I live twenty mile from the dealership and at 12.9 mile the lite came back on. Is this something I can fix myself, or due i need to take it back and let them fix it?
Thanks TH |

Re: Service engine Code P1404?
whoa whoa whoa what the hell are you talking about? Bad tranny? No way you prob just need to buy a new EGR valve. My scanner keeps throwing the same code out. A new EGR valve for my car is like $100-150 and you'll need to buy an EGR valve gasket, which is a few bucks. Its an emission thing its not going to hurt your car but you should get another one just cause it doesnt clean the exhaust as well and you prob. wont pass emissions.

![]() as for this post..his egr valve is bad. actually the code comes as a result of the ECM incomplete sensor data. |

anyways...this is it.. P1404 is the EGR Pintle Position (system) and the fault description is "Circuit Fault". in reality, the best thing is to take the whole damn intake off and do a good house cleaning, since all the passage ways(i.e. vacuum routes, etc.)gets plugged. the pintle gets stuck by all the crap inside the manifold, usually having the engine running too rich. the original culprit is(most of the time) the faulty engine coolant temp sensor. with that going bad, is usually downhill for performance and everything wise ...lol now.i think I've exhausted the subject for all the peps...lmao.. |

I came up with the same error. I did have a bad temp sensor last year and it was fixed along with replacing my cat converter since it was hallow. Now a year later and I get the P1404 error. So is there a way to test the EGR valve to be sure it is good? What are some easier ways to clean this without tearing the engine apart? |

Re: Service engine Code P1404?
Update on what I did on my car.
I took off the EGR valve. I then took a small screw driver and did a little scraping inside the tube. I then put the EGR valve back on and clear the code. Well a month later and no error. |

95% of the time will work. In some cases it's just too old and you have to replace the valve anyways. They're not that expensive and it will save you the headache to fumble around with it if you don't want to get real dirty.. lol one more thing.. and I strongly recommend against it unless you are really , really desperate.. is to take the valve off and use compressed air to blow right through the passage ways.. there.. if yer engine quits, do not blame me..lmao |
