Unhappy Focus that wont start?

I have a 2001 Focus that wont start. I have done all the checks that the Haynes manual for the Focus said to do. My engine rotates but will not make an attempt to start. After looking at the forums I believe that it is the fuel pump that is causing all of these problems. The motor started to hesitate then it surged and then it stalled out, and has'nt started since. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.Focus that wont start?

diagnose when no start

When a car won't start, first you have to determine if it is spark, fuel, or air that is missing.

You can check for spark with an inductive timing light.
You can check for fuel being the problem by temporarily providing fuel with starting fluid.

Assuming it is fuel, the next thing is to check fuel pump pressure at the fitting near the fuel filter.

Assuming there is no pressure, then determine if the hot side of the wires to the pump is getting current. There is a fuel cut off to the right of the driver's feet that might need to be reset.
There may be other safeties that could prevent pump operation.
But there also is a recall on the pump itself.
